Interesting....

The M in the VON for the early cars actually means Sales bank / Show car. These cars were usually used for shows, newspaper ads, road tests and stuff like that. It likely traveled to a few different dealerships for public display and was then sold as a used car.

You will find some things that are different on promo and pilot cars from standard production line cars. The pilot R/T convertible 440 six-pack car (JS27V0B100021, if I remember correctly) came with a finish panel that was painted black, not dark argent, for example.

I thought it interesting as well, thanks for the input from Jack and Barry,(I learn a lot from those two), Danny this car kinda reminds me of mine save the red interior of course, and it's a much rarer convertible, I love the red/white colours. It will be with mine at the Nats in 08  BTW, Danny, have you seen Bobby Orr's Challenger? It repotedly is the highest optioned Promo car ever built. It's now owned by none other than Steven Juliano. Are you a Hockey Fan? Bobby Hull was Hockey's greatest player besides Gretzky? Want to see it?

I bet Barry has seen/heard of this ultra rare 1971 Convertible. It was also restored with assembly line parts which differed somewhat from replacement N.O.S. parts.

This must be a sister car to it? It's been on ebay for quite a while. Hot damn I love that red on red. :p: I noticed the VON looks to be a few numbers off since the VIN's covered. Sorry for jacking up the thread with the ebay link.

Like I always say Jack away! Looks like the bidding ended. I wonder what it went for? He had to have at least 150k in resto costs so if it brought less than that he lost money. Just wait till the challenger 'craze' hits and the prices go up to match the Cudas. These 'speculators' are gonna be sorry.

 i have been saying this all year,i really think it is going to happen. the challenger should catch up to the cuda. i think they are so much better looking and have that class with the muscular look like no other mopar. with the new challenger coming out everyone is going to start to recognize the originals. i know that all the local dealers are looking for a good looking older challenger to put beside the new one. i might do it for my local dealership but i am not shure if i like everyone walking around my car causing scratches/smudges etc... i was at a big toronto classic car auction a few weeks back and saw a 1971 cuda 440 6 pack car get $199,900. i dont get it,i went home and checked the production numbers on those cars and it was only a few less than my 70 challenger r/t se 440 6 pack car but i paid way less than half that amount than the cuda. sorry but apple for apple the challengers are a bargain.maybe the challengers will get the do respect they deserve. just my 2 cents worth. :wink2:

In the article it mentions that Bobby was an 'obnoxious' guy? Hockey guys are like that arent they? Jack T is right about driving these cars, if I cant drive it, it wouldnt be fun to me. There is a man in the Ford fold, named Bob? Perkins. He owns the finest collection of GT-500's Shelby Mustangs. He doesnt drive them. He claims,"a driven car is a never a true repesentation of a delivered product", and I appreciate that level of comittment it takes to preserve the breed, but without the sound, feel, action ect,, it wouldnt be enjoyable. Bill Weiman the Hemi Cuda Convertible collector, reportedly drives his cars.

i agree with jack and eddie too. my cars are very high quality cars but you better believe i drive them every chance i get.people sometimes come up to me at a cruise and say "you drive that car" i tell them "of course i do".the best part about driving my cars is not really the cruise ins but it is when i am on the move.the feel and sounds of old school - there is nothing like it! also i love the thumbs up i get when i am on the road.especially the kids, they just love old muscle cars, they think it is a space ship as they have never seen the car before.life is short, enjoy the car and drive them.

Thanks to the picĀ“s I learned two things:

The rear edge/flange of the doors on CONVERTIBLES have some sort of guide or bump stop high up on the door. Does anyone have close-ups of them? What are they for?

Second question: To the right of the ash tray there are two "idiot lights". Does anyone have any close-ups? One of them shows which gear that is in, but the other?

Convertibles had anti-rattle wedge do-hickies at the backs of the doors, I am not sure of the proper name for them.

The dash lights are for "reverse" and "seat belt". The fasten seat belt light was part of the C15 option.

I had a Bee with the seat belt option. It would light up for a while after first started and would stay on shortly after turned off. I found this pic on the 'net somewhere & Chris G. posted it over on the '70 Charger Registry. :?:

Thanks guys! The de luxe seat belts (C15) must be a quite rare option.

Cool, does anyone know if the C15 option also had the annoying buzzer sound as well?

No, the annoying buzz came on when the wife got in :lol2: :bonk:
