I took my 70 out yesterday. It was 71 degrees F and very cloudy/dark the radar showed 0% chance of rain, it was an ominous if not gloomy looking day. I was alone as usual and drove around my block then down the road. I live in the 'country' wide open spaces. As I approached a newer Buick driven apparently by an elderly person doing 25 in a 45 MPH zone, I eagerly passed her and saw another vehicle much further ahead. A State Trooper was going the opposite way and as we passed he hit his lights and did a U-turn with lights blaring and coming fast on my ass. I didnt have my liscense, damn I forgot it! I was just starting to pull over when he passed me pulling over an old truck that was farther up ahead of me. Whew! I passed that old lady going at least 85! I thought I was dead Meat. With No liscense and reckless driving it could have been tow hook time! I was very Lucky! :V8: The police are on a seat belt crusade. They make 65 bucks with each ticket!

Ouch Ian! That would hurt wouldnt it! The funny thing is the school buses with little kiddies have NO seatbelts. It is financially/politically motivated.

School buses over here have to have them these days. Coaches too. But not the regular buses for getting around town.

The seat belt laws for cars here came in around 1980 or not long after. But I had worn belts for some time. It was no big deal to me like it was for the older people. I used to fit racing seats and harnesses in many of my cars anyway. The way I used to drive it was for the best.

$101.00 here in Washington. :wink2: Kind of suck's though. I know the law is for safety sake but, I noticed where the seatbelt is wearing on my drivers lower seat. Pluss the restraint. I'm thinking of 74+ 3 point styling. You 73-70 guy's know what I mean. Patrick

101.00 huh Pat. I dont buy the safety deal. It's all about generating money for the govt. do they work? Sure! I always wear mine. I just dont think we should have to. it should be a choice. (Motorcyclists dont have to have helmets, how safe is that?)

No doubt Wayne. It's like they want to hold your hand and preach to you. But when you falter they charge you with all kinds of fines. In the name of safety.(I realise what you do for a living, and it's greatly needed in the workplace but this is absurd). :fight: Safety Geek

Yep. You have to wear a crash helmet on a bike over here too. Most of Europe I think?

But not on a Trike! Trikes are classed differently and they missed those out when they bought the helmet law in. :D

I am suprised they have not made it compulsory for cyclists yet. They encourage kids to wear them but adults should set an example so kids don't feel it is not "cool" to wear one.
I always wear a stupid cycling helmet on my bike going to work and back. But then again I look pretty stupid in my hi-vis jacket anyway.

Plus can't really afford any kind of a head injury at the moment..... :(

JR, very interesting over there! Yeah, man you could end up in the 'hockey' pretty easily if one was stupid. I used to have a helmet when I rode bikes but since have gotten rid of it. I never drink alcohol, gave it up over 10 years ago, but drinking and driving is pretty stupid, the #1 accident prevention device besides carefully observing the posted laws is headlights. I read where the use of ones headlights as used in motorcycles in this country, whenever the ignition is turned on, reduces accidents 50% across the board, should be implemented in cars and trucks. I drive with my headlights on no matter day or night. 'Trickes' or small scooters here in Indiana = no liscense needed and no helmet needed if below 50cc engine, so all the scooters are 49 cc and are starting to resemble that little car I think the Messerschmidt or Skoda or Clown car,(just kidding). Dave, what colour is your safety vest? It's not red is it?

Riding a motorcycle with no helmet here in Wa. and OR. is a hefty fine as well. :wink2:
