airfuelEddie wrote:Great, I not gonna have it done then. It's that simple right? I can take the pain. It does hurt pressing in on a hydraulic clutch though. My Challenger? It's very painful pushing in. I couldn't make it on a long drive unless I had some, well you know! Ten years, seriously Dave? Then I would have to have it done again and again no way man. I already had a Lamenectomy with pedicle instrumentation,(L4,L5), were completely fractured through, and two fusions, with a titanium cage, but thats cool I got through it. Now the knees. last year I started taking Hylgal injections, made from rooster coombs, it helped for a while. Dave I'm a fighter, wont go down or Stay Down. They'll have to euthanize my sorry ass first man!!
dave-r wrote:No i didn't say they only last 10 years Eddie. I just meant it has been ten years since I saw or read anything about them. I don't work with medics much these days.
There are ways to avoid making the knee worse. Stop causing impact damage by running and jogging.
Debris can be flushed out. There are drugs, anti-inflammatories and pain killers.
Talk to your doctor. You will get no-where talking to a bunch of car owners even if they have personal experience of a bad knee. This is because any treatment or outcome is specific to an individual.

Been there done that. You Thai boxing then?
Inflicted knee injuries a few times on heavy dudes outside pubs/clubs thinking their size somehow makes me an easy target.

Ten years. Early 80s to the early 90s.
Was the junior instructor of an unlicensed club that used various spare rooms in old pubs. The two founders were barred from competition. Most members in the early days were ex-Queens Guardsmen. Big lads.
We also mixed in some Kung Fu for fun and weapons training. So our stance is not strict Muay Thai (too open to front kick attack) and more Kung Fu in appearance with being more side-on and swapping lead from left to right. Weight on the back leg most of the time.
At one time we branched out to teach local kids in a school (don't know how we got away with that one) and we had about 30 people in class. But in the pubs 10 or 12 was more common and then the school head noticed kids were kicking 7 bells out of each other at lunchtimes so put a stop to it and we had to just focus on the pubs.
I had the idea of doing ladies self defence nights too. That was a great idea. You know how women always fancy their instructors? I was single at the time. Oh yes. Best idea I ever had.
As I got older I picked up more and more strains and injuries. Found I was fighting in pubs and clubs all the time. Beating people up etc. Most needing hospital treatment. Got arrested for assault several times including assaulting two plain clothes police officers. One needing hospital treatment.
So when I met the woman I married I packed it in. I am still fighting with my inner aggression but winning more than not these days. Stay away from pubs and clubs with daft drunk young men that don't realise what they are getting themselves into.
Then my instructor and good friend was murdered by drug dealers. We suspect he was shot because as a 22 stone martial arts expert he was not taken down easily. But we never found the body and only suspect who the gang were.
So that was that. I have never been in any kind of gym for 15 years now.

Had to grow up sometime and my early 30s seemed like a good time to do it. I am 48 in 7 days time. It is getting really painful staying in bed these days. My back is terrible. I feel so stiff getting up that I walk like a 90 year old for a couple of minutes until things loosen up. My left knee can lock at any time. My ankles hurt when I walk. My fingers get stiff and clumsy in the cold. Find it hard to make a fist with the pain in my knuckles some days.
It will come to you.
The thing about doing this stuff is you get used to the pain. Or even begin to like it. So you don't realise when you are damaging your body and the injuries pile up.
I still sometimes look at the backs of my hands and read all the scars. I know how I got each one. But they are fading away. Along with the chip on my shoulder and the rage in my guts.
airfuelEddie wrote:Thanks guys for the advice and the stories. Very interesting, when I was at the prison we were taught "pain compliance techniques" I viewed this as a waste of time and energy, you are locked in with 185 men who are not kind fellows. They are there for being bad, very bad, usually drugs or gangland killings. I thought a chair, my 5lb. motorola radio, handcuffs, ect, were all better weapons,(it's all I had), and as a last resort running away! But if another staff member was involved you had better stay your ground. I see my doctor this Fri. I understand now about the "10 yrs. dave" they are going to use another set of injections on my knees. The doctor has already completed 4 sets over the last two years. Oh I forgot to tell you I have Rhuematory Arthritis,(the kind that wers away the joint, last time I was in the office he said, if the problem comes back, we should recommend kenee replacement surgery. This so far is not an option for me. No more running or jogging. I'm "only" 50 and I have the mind of a 5 err 18 year old! I will see what the Doc says this Fri. BTW, Red Raven, you could probably do a better job than some of the "hack" doctors we have around here. The last doctor I went to prescribed me anti-depressants, I threw them into the toilet. I wasnt depressed, at all, dont understand why he did that. I found another doctor, he became my friend and we talk cars. He doesnt own any American cars at all. He owns the most beautiful Jaguar I have ever seen. I dont know hardly anything about them, except this one is V-8 powered and is very fast, and beautiful.
Thanks for the offer. I may have to go down that road someday I spent some time at the restaurant today and the swelling hasnt gone down any. Here is a pic of my knees.BTW, I'm a skinny dude. 165-170 lbs.David wrote:Air, best thing I can do for you is trade you my automatic for your 4 speed. As much as I'll miss the old girl, I just have to suffer.
Really thought, the knee replacement is easy, you'll be up and walking the same day and In a month you should be pushing in the clutch easily.
airfuelEddie wrote:Went to the doctor today. He said basically what ol' Dave said. Replacement knees may last 10, 15, 1 year! It depends upon your lifestyle and weight! I'm Doomed Seriously, Hylagan injections can be administered for the rest of one's life! They are gonna inject me once a week for 6 weeks then I should be able to resume my abnormal, carefree and reckless lifestyle!
airfuelEddie wrote:Yep, Sorry Bob, I promised it to my Bro, Red Raven! On second thought, Bob's car is gorgeous, a ragtop! and minutes from my home,(well close anyways), Might get my "clocked" cleaned by some irate IrishMan! Seriously, glad the weather held out for you and yeah I wished I could have been there, sounded like a blast and you did get to see that new Challenger. What did you think of it Bob?
