A good book

Have you got a good book on the shelf? Why don´t you share it with us?

Some time ago I bought the book "Mopar - the performance years" by Martyn L. Schorr. I was surprised by the quality of the book. Far better than I had expected. The disadvantage is that it probably is hard to aquire. It is printed in 1984.

What do you think of the 71 Challenger below? Flat hood, wide hood mouldings, front spoiler and a rear wing. A one-of-one car? I have never seen anything like it before. :shock:

It's a "standard" model as stated in the article, but the wide hood moulding and spoiler? Chelsea proving ground, testing body moulding option packages?

Hey, Christer! Yeah, in fact I do. A strange coincidence is that it happens to be volume two of your book! I didn´t realize that it existed until I borrowed it from a friend last week. Here are some of my personal highlights from it (Sorry, no Challengers though) //Chris

Christer, I have the book "Hemi The ultimate American V-8" by Robert Genat, it's a great book and has many beautiful colour pics of E-bodies. It is also informative. Out of all the American muscle cars made, The 426 Gen. II is found more often in original condition than any other make according to Genat. The owners knew even then they had something very special.

I will have to definitely check that out JJ, I bet MoPar Action magazine would love to serve up Mr. Yates head,,on a spit! They might have taken a much better race result if it hadn't been for him,(one lap race of america that he puts on every year). I would love to read the book however.

Dave, that Trans Am book of yours seems somehow familiar. I wonder where I have seen it before :? :)

Dave, nice collection, Art Arfons. Didn't he shoe a JET Powered MoPar? A 64? "baccaruda" that ran a 200mph Quarter! In the mid sixties? He had to have a HUGE set! :s016:

That might have been him or his brother Walt. Not sure if it was a Barracuda either??

I am sure I have some old photos in a 1960s magazine some where. I will look them up.

That land speed book is probably my most favorite automotive book. Get a copy if you can. I found it in a book store in Dublin, Ireland when on a few days holiday there with friends. I ended up reading it all in one go!

I must get that Fastest Men on Earth book. Although even The gallopin Grandpa Norm Thatcher's exploits with those early 57-64 MoPars would be interesting. Dig the look on ol Norms Face! He looks like he must be thinking" I aint gonna make it in this pile"!! :biggrin:

So Dave, both Arfons were involved in Jet Car drag/Bonneville Salt flats speed racing huh? Looks like according to the photo's a Mercury/Ford Comet? and a Plymouth Barracuda.

The two brothers fell out big time over some small matter and built there own LSR cars. They not only didn't talk to each other but they even went so far as to divide their workshop in half with a wall down the middle! :shock: :lol:

Got it! Thanks a lot for the tip. :D The cover itself makes it a "must have".

Btw; At first I got a $25 shipping quote(USPS airmail parcel or something). I asked the seller if we could choose Global priority mail instead (large envelope , flat-rate $9.50, max 4 pounds) and he agreed. It saved us $15 in shipping! Maybe useful for someone else who lives overseas.
