Eddie, Are you talking about the orange colored pull lever beside the vent pull levers? I thought that only shaker cars came with that lever.

Yes, Bob thats it. Whats it for? My N-96 car has it, but for obvious reasons. Was this a production goof? Very interesting, man these Challengers, I learn something new everyday on here! Christer look again, it's got a fresh air carb cable actuator, those are to open the cold/warm air doors for a true ram air system, code N-96.

That car would have to be the best unrestored hemi challenger in the world

Yes, now I understand what you mean. Very strange. I have no idea.

If I am not mistaken, that cable would read Choke, not carb air, since the HEMIs had manual chokes on them.

In fact here is a pic of the cable.

Hope the weather clears up for the Trade show Bob. I have been driving the PowerRam 4x4 and having a blast! I am gonna take it to INDY dont care about the 10 MPG. It drives thru anything! We just recieved 2" ice then 6" snow, PERFECT!

So do I. What would Mopars be without all oddities? That is why we like them so much, I guess (and why we like beeing here so much.) It is all just a never ending story.
The worlds most visible choke handle? To have a very visible handle for letting fresh air in feels like a cool idea, but a choke handle? I guess the tooling was ready so they said why not!
Btw; A Hemi with both a choke AND a shaker scoop, will it have two luminous handles?

I HAD THE 60 CHEVY TO DRIVE IN THE SNOW, SO THE HEMI SAT AT HOME, I ALSO BOUGHT A 1971 VOLKSWAGEN AT THE SAME TIME TO DRIVE IT TO WORK ALSO. THE HEMI SAT AT HOME, I BOUGHT A 1974 VW, TO REPLACE THE 71 VW, THE HEMI SAT AT HOME...
Do you realize what you have written, Eddie? Calling him a winner, do you? In a VW? That´s a laugh!
(No offence)
I am sure that he also had another Challenger as a daily driver. To only have one running Challenger and not use it seems like an impossible equation to me.

Me to.
Question: I thought that the R/T-stripes on the sides would exclude the R/T-badges on the front fenders, but obviously that isn´t the case....

As far as a N-96 shaker Hemi model I guess it would make sense to have both, pp.81 of this issue of MoparMuscle magazine has a blue 70 Shaker Hemi but you can only see one red, its not a very good interior picture. All three of those R/T's were produced one right after the other according to the article, all Hemi powered two are N-96,(1 of 184 total N-96 shaker Challengers made). Impressive indeed. They are much too critical of this car on moparts! It's arrogant to deny anything on this fine machine!

I was just reading on moparts about this hemi. They said the car was damaged, has repro exhaust...... then I read more and found out they talk about two differnt cars. It seems not everyone realizes that.
The other thing in the same Moparts topic: The discussion about the R/T emblems on a Challenger. I highly recommend: Let's not start a discussion about the location of the R/T fender emblems here on this board, it is simply useless. Thank you.
I hope I did not offend someone here now. If I did, sorry about that.

What you are saying is that a discussion won´t lead us anywhere, because nobody knows for sure. Right?
OR
You shall not question a one owner 1800 mile car?
If it is about the second alternative, then I say why not have a discussion?
Either it can be
1) a factory error.
2) added by the dealer.
3) added by the owner.
4) is correct.
I really hope that I am not seen as Mr Picky or something. I adore all these cars and I would love to own each of them, preferably a running car. On a place like this (the board) I find it intresting to discuss very small details, errors and so on. I hope you understand me.
If I am wrong or if my comments are dull in any way, just let me know.

Christer, what I mean is that the discussion on moparts had no end. Everyone has it's own opinion and people get angry about the emblem location and if it was there originally or not. This goes just too far I think.
And yes, I believe nobody knows for sure. People did build those cars, maybe there was this new guy putting the emblems on and he simply made a few mistakes on the first few days working for Chrysler. There are too many known strange things on some cars.
And then people there at moparts just misunderstood each other, because one was talking about the 1800 mile car and the other one was talking about another survivor in the same post.
Thats why I like it here on this board, it is not so critical.

Now I see. I didn´t follow you in the first place.
Yeah, somtimes I ask my self if small details really are something to chat about. I guess it is - to a certain extent. To become more knowledgeable is what I am searching for. To be able to separate the truth from rumours is a pleasant feeling. I think it is important to be open-minded, that is to be able to see things from different perspectives.
Now I think it is time for a beer!
It use to give me a bunch of new perspectives....

I do find the production line stuff very interesting though. There is still quite a lot we don't understand about how these cars were actually assembled.

I think every "plant" tried to have a standardization about them but remember this was 1960s and those assembly line workers had to be a disgruntled bunch, they didnt make anywhere near the union money they make today, and you know the ol saying you get what you pay for. Maybe thats why there are these peculiar differences. Then again maybe we will never know. Unlike today, there was much more human involvement in the building of these cars, therefore more mistakes?

The car is phenomenal. An absolute time capsule.
With that said...I hope I don't or didn't come across as arrogant on the 'parts thread. I questioned a few things only because I want to learn, not throw out the doubt flag.
I would love to be able to go over that car with a camera and a notepad.
Better yet win the lottery and offer the owner a ridiculous amount of money.

while we are talking about strange anomilies with these cars heres another 1 my car is dark tan met from factory & still has its original floor pan yet the floor is painted in a metalic green with no sign of the tan & there is no sign of the green under or over the tan any where on the car im just wondering if they started to paint it & realised they had the wrong colour for the car
cheers ian
