member name deleted?

Postby challengethis340 » 03 Dec 2006 16:39

I came to log into the forums before and it kept saying my member name was invalid. I signed up again using the same e mail and member name I did the first time, and now looking through some old threads I posted in I see that all of my old posts are now posted under the guest tag. Just wondering why my member name would have been deleted? I don't come here too often, maybe theres a limit you can go without posting?

thanks

That was me.

On the 16th of October I deleted every member that not logged onto the site at all in the last 9 months or more. Many had not visited the board for years let alone months.

I posted an announcment about it at the time. The point was to get rid of the people that were obviously not coming back so that the member list is more representative and a lot smaller. 900 old members were deleted.

HOWEVER!

The tool for doing this on the board is crude and as well as those people I wanted to delete it also deleted those members who had joined longer than 9 months ago but who have not been on the site for the 60 days up to that date. :(

This is something I did not want to do but couldn't avoid with the tool I had and I suspect you fell into that group?

From now on you should be OK as long as you log on at least once a year.

It is a shame that a few got caught out by this and got deleted when I really didn't want to do that. The worst bit is, as you have found, your old posts no longer have your name on them. I am sorry about that.

You can always open a new thread and insert your photos again. I can then insert a link in each thread so that people can jump between the two.

It seems like all the others except me were thrown out (so to say) on the 16th of october. I was the only one who was deleted on FRIDAY the 13TH of October! Spooky.

Nice to hear that Friday the 13th doesn´t have to mean anything negative. :)

Congrats to your R/T! I wish my car was a R/T too, or at least in one piece :s022:

Pretend that I am a "Frequent poster"-wannabe: How do I calculate what I need to do to become one? (Where is the limit between a "Board regular" and a "Frequent poster"?)

I know that it is a silly question... :blushes:

My guess would be either 50, 75 or 100 posts. It varies by board because I think the admin can set it to how ever many post he wants it, maybe JR can pop in here and give us the run down on it.

Thanks!

(Not much of a post, but it is one step closer beeing a "Frequent poster". :D)

You were not the only one deleted on the 13th Christer. People that had not posted for a VERY long time got deleted then. You were one of a very few (the only one?) caught by that deletion because you had not been around for so long. There were hundreds deleted along with you that day.

The one on the 16th caught more people because the first deletion (13th) did not catch enough people that had no intention of returning.

I think I can change your posting status manually. I will look into it when I have caught up with stuff. It is amazing how much work and email piles up when you are away for just a week? :s008:

However the tool for doing so is not very good and it deleted many members I didn't want to loose. So i will not be doing that again.

What are your future plans then? I have a suggestion: You (admins) do an operation cleansweep in the beginning of January each year. It is easy both for the admins and for the members to remember. Haven´t been here during the last year and your out. As simple as that. Yes, the total number of members will be greater than the true number of members, but I don´t see that as a problem.

Christer do you like Hard Rock Halleluja? Ronnie James Dio fan here, and when I want easy listening it's Metallica, Black Sabbath,Scorpions,Flotsam Jetsam, Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne should be at the top of the list as well just for his tenacity and ability to function with little brain cells left from partying. Only two kinds of music my friend---HEAVY and METAL!!Everyone my age is aghast. My wife listens to country but I find that akin to physical torture.

I am not sure I can delete any members safely. Even if I did it one member at a time once a month or so to make it easy.

On the members list it tells me when a person last logged on (if ever).

However I suspect it is not always right.

Certainly, doing a mass deletion is full of pitfalls.

C´mon Dave, show your guts! What is the worst thing that can happen? A bunch of dissatisfied ex-members, who has lost their identity, profile and mailbox, and now wants to beat you (NOT physically) at the next Mopar Nat´s? That is nothing to be afraid of, is it? DO IT!

(Sorry for my twisted sence of humour. Naturally, I am just joking.)

Lessons learned: It is better to delete members too seldom instead of too often?

Yes, I like that song very much. I also like their show. Lordi has had a tremendous impact on Finland, I think. Here in Europe we have a competition between countries and the best song wins (Usually the songs are not much to be proud of, if you know what I mean). Finland has never before been close to winning and now they won with a very large margain. The guys in Lordi are somewhat kings in their hometown now. Except for the fact that I like the song I tought that the link maybe could give a smile on the face of your dear admin (jr), who is from Finland.

In general I am not a very big Hard rock fan. I like many sorts of music. Mostly I use to listen to the ordinary pop/rock stuff.

Ah yes! The Eurovision Song Contest.

It was originally started to prove that it was technically possible to link up with several different countries at the same time thanks to the very first TV satellites in space. They have done one every year since.

It is considered a joke here in the UK at least. Although some countries take it very seriously.

It is supposed to be a song contest but it is really about politics. Greece always votes for Cyprus. Cyprus for Greece. All of the ex-USSR countries in eastern Europe vote for each other etc etc.

The UK won it a few years ago. Then we went into Iraq with the USA and the next year we scored zero points.

I watch it with my wife for a laugh. Some of the songs/outfits are so bad they are very funny. Our (Irish) commentator has a very wicked wit and he has us in stitches with his commentary.

Justin Hawkins from "The Darkness" was going to have a go at it this year but I don't know if he or anyone else has been picked yet?

Battle of the metal bands representing different countries, cool, does the usa bands ever "compete"? Is it about quality of music or just showmanship? I try not to listen to any songs that contain the words, love her she wife adore sister aint ect...

Errr. Metal bands they are not. But because a rock band won last year I bet there are a few similar bands this year. They always jump on the bandwagon.

Usually it is like the 60s all over again. Pom pop a pom pom etc etc :s008:
