Someones dream came true

I woke up this morning and found a T/A on my driveway.

But it is not MY dream that came true. It was board member "Babyelephant"s.

I will let him fill you in on the details but he bought this T/A some of you may have seen for sale here on this board. I live not far from the ferry terminal that will ship it to it's new home in Norway.

I took up the very kind offer to give it a test drive.

Thank you very much Babyelephant. It was very nice meeting you and your mate. See you again sometime.

Oh! and Diana says she is sorry she missed you leaving. I should have called her down to say goodbye.

Photos here soon.

It was in a T/A wanted ad rather than a for sale ad. It is an auto car.

Looks good from 15ft but needs total bare metal respray. However it is a driver and is good enough to turn heads everywhere it goes. It turned a lot more heads than my Challenger does.

Quite a lot of filler in the car. It rattles and has lots of strange noises going on under it (probably the exhaust?) but it sure is fun to drive.

Handles very well. Couldn't push it hard as the roads are not that good at the moment. But you can go into corners with a fair amount of confidence.

Engine is very good and feels strong but need someone that knows what they are doing to tune it. Yes Barry this is the one I had a quick go at tuning last summer but could only get it a bit closer to where it should be. Not enough time to do anything else.

The engine is not stock and you can't use stock tuning methods!!
It is idling too high and throttle response is poor. With the correct tuning it would have a crisp response and better power off the line at part throttle positions. It basically needs more air for the idle and a better advance curve for the timing. I didn't get a chance to look at it with the timing light and vacuum gauge so I can't confirm exactly what it needs. It takes a full day or even a full weekend for me to tune a car right.

I think the car is very good mechanically.
It just needs some tender loving care and that bodywork sorted out.
Having met the new owner I can tell it is going to get both of those things and more over the coming years.

The '99 Cherokee Sport and '98 Neon both belong to my wife Diana. The Neon is for getting us to work every day. The Jeep is for weekends and trips. The Challenger R/T in bits in the garage is the only car with my name on the title. :(

Sounds like an average used Challenger to me :|

To have a T/A on visit is 10 times better than if Julia Roberts had knocked on the door, right? :s009:

I drove it for at least a half hour if not more? Very naughty of me but it has been a couple of years now since I drove my car and it took 10 or 15 mins to get used to it.

And yes. Suddenly the garage does not seem so cold and forbidding. :D

Thanks for your comments everybody! The ferry carried us safe over to Scandinavia and now I just have to be patient waiting for spring and none-slippery driving conditions (if that may happen driving a Challenger either dry or wet or icy roads! Will someone please deliver a slant six for my car then!?).

Dave: Nice pictures! Hope it's ok for you that I download them for my computer/private use?

Barry: you may update your register with a Norwegian one. I even know of another Top Banana yellow T/A here, but I've never seen it. Going through a serious restoration it will be a show winner I guess.

To make the map it has to be registered first, you can print out the forms at www.challengertaregistry.com

You also get back a fair amout of information and it is free.
