well the t/a arrived last night. cant get over how well finished and comfortable it is for the age! had a very slight miss fire on very light throttle so took it up to the american car mechanic in omaha and he traced it to a possible faulty plug lead, hes adjusting the timing and giving it a good going over and tune up. then i think it'll be off to the body shop for a full paint job. should i keep the bonnet black for origionality or paint it yellow with the rest of the car? also anyone have for sale or know where i can get a nice set of wheels? period style but racey like torque thrusts . open to recommendations.

DO NOT CHANGE THE TIMING FROM WHERE I SET IT!

This is a modified engine. NOT standard. Unless the timing has been altered since I set it back in July.

I set it to 35 degrees total advance (with vacuum disconected). I can't remember where the initial timing ended up. But you want at least 12-14 degrees initial on that engine. If anything (and depending on quality of fuel) you might want it just slightly more advanced.

But usually 35 degrees total @3000rpm (initial plus mechanical) is about where all Mopar engines should be set to run best. It makes a big difference believe me. I have been tuning Mopar V8s for over 20 years and I think I have the gist of it by now?

For gods sake don't set it to the factory settings. I wouldn't even set a completely stock engine to those setting let alone a modified one like yours.

no probs i'll ring him and ask him to leave the timing well alone. hopefully getting a digital camera for christmas so u'll have to wait for the photos!!lol

He can check it at least. Just in case someone moved it since.

Tell him 35 degrees @ 3000rpm with the vacuum line disconnected and plugged.

You want 800-900rpm idle speed. If there is a vacuum signal on the distributor vacuum line from the carb then drill a couple of small holes in the center carb throttle blades and try setting the idle speed and idle mixture again. You need to loose the vacuum on that pipe at idle. Set the idle mixture with the car in gear.
