Oh well in that case I know the car. In fact I gave it a quick tune at the Mopar Nats this summer. It ran better but needs a couple of holes drilled in the throttle blades because of the bigger than stock cam. I don't know if James got around to doing that.

The holes will allow the idle circuits to work correctly. It is not optimum at the moment. I can talk you through it if you need me to.

Oh, THAT!

Ok, best of luck with it. You might consider wearing a neck brace while racing? It would be a shame for all that torque to snap you neck.

T/Ake it easy,

Looking at the competition picture it must have been a bracket race. With the ford getting a deserved advantage off the line. Say .75 seconds.

Mmmm.

Now I am sure that was before I gave the engine a little "tweek" and it was a lot faster (like a second and a half?) the next time out.

I have to wonder why the back of the Mustang is cropped out? Was it being pushed maybe?

If that mustang is being pushed, I am really glad that the guy who rebuilt the motor in that T/A does not do any work on my car.

Standard side by side race- The Commanders reaction time of +1.526 sec is what made the photo look so spectacular

Funny old thing my reaction time of +.755 hardly set the world on fire either

The photo doesn't really show the whole story, The Chally T/A with its 4:10 gears was a quicker car on the strip, my Mach had a fairly pedestrian 2.79:1 ratio, I've got a 3.55:1 diff to try for next time.

Great fun though

Major Kong:

Would you please explain this recent thread for us new comers. Did you own both cars.

What does Major Kong and your slogan mean? I have seen the cowboy on the rocket in a movie. Looks cool !

No John I only own the Muzzy, James (Zogg on this board) owned the Chally up until recently. We've known each other for a number of years & I do a lot of work for/with him on his cars, as he lives in the next town to me & we drove up to the Mopar nats in convoy.

Major Kong, my avatar, the slogan, Burpleson AFB & even Zogg all came from the Movie "Dr Strangelove"

Appropriate as we both work in the defence industry

When I got the photo back that Sally took on my camera of our first race at Santa-Pod the temptation to post it on here was too great.

Anyhow- back on topic (ish) Lightning has a great car there, its the best handling American car I've ever driven & with a little bit of extra work will be a show stopper

On the run pictured the T/A ran 15.6 secs.

I don't think it improved very much on subsequent runs.

Then I gave it a bit of a tweak and it ran 14.4 A gain of 1.2 seconds.

Nothing like blowing your own trumpet is there?

I think 14.4 is pretty good even taking into account that the engine has a hotter than stock cam in it.

To put it in perspective. The first time I ran my 440 Challenger up the strip it had a "284" duration cam and I thought it was pretty fast. But the tickets were low 15s. Best of the day with practice leaving the line was 14.8.

James had a much better day than that first time out and with an engine 100 cubic inches smaller.

Mr Lightning has a very good car there.
