History for Challenger

Postby john64 » 25 Jan 2005 23:00

Hi can anyone help. I am looking for history, previous owners, anyone knowing the car etc. I got car at the start of December 2004 it came from the Derby area. The fender tag decodes as 340 rallye 727 auto in Dark silver, black interior produced Aug 1972. As far as I know the car was painted orange, then burgundy red, then geenish primer, then the most rubbish paint job I have ever seen in sublime green (the paint will have to come off its that bad). It is fitted with a 1972 318 with 360 heads, big block radiator, new holley 600. Anyone know what happened to the 340 that was in it. It is also fitted with cragar ss wheels (anyone want a swap for a set of rallys or magnums). Reg number was ERA 512T I have now got it properly reg as 1972 on a K plate. JH23H3B****** Any info would be appreciated. It has power discs, anti roll bars. Have been having a closer look and have noticed it is also fitted with a big DANA 60 rear axle fitted with finned drums ????

Cheers
John

Hi John,
I'm just down the road from you in Glenrothes,If you'd posted this a few weeks back, you could have had my Magnums, but I've grown to rather like them!I'm in the process of re-registering mine too, back to a K plate,is it on the road? if so you should come to the Knightriders meet in Dundee,I'm waiting on a few wheelstuds for mine, then I'll be back on the road!

Hi Tiff, I am awaiting a new fuel tank from the states which should be here this week so its kinda up on axle stands at the moment, so you dont fancy a set of cragars with new tyres as a swap for your magnums oh well. I will be over at the knightriders some thurday soon. Your car will look better with k plates as you can fit black and silver ones.

Cheers
John

JH23H3B****** you've said...

Hmmm...let me see then...

JH23 would mean it's no real Rallye car, but as the VIN also reads H3B it means it is a 340 car (the H) but from 1973. And the 1973 part means it can be seen by the VIN if it's a rallye yes or no. All 73/74's starts the VIN with JH instead of JS for a rallye. It can only be seen on the fender tag and if that reads out as a rallye edition it is. It's just from 1973 not 1972. That's all.

Can't help you on any more info about your car.

Grtz.

Ps Welcome aboard here...

Think you got lost in translation Hans.

The car is a 73 340 ralley model produced in 72. What he is looking for is anyone that knows or has owned the car.

Propably Dave... the "properly reg as 1972 on a K plate" made me assume he thought he had a 72 model car...sorry for the misunderstanding. Must be the fumes from painting in the garage... Working on the car almost every free minute I have, wanna finish it before the shows are starting eh.
