 I guess it is becuse the sellers think they take a greater risk when they ship overseas or maybe because of the fact that they can add one or two dollars due to that fewer sellers  are selling worldwide (compared to the US market). In other words: The competition is not so stiff so they can sell even though the prices are not very low. It sometimes feels a bit unfair and depressing, but that´s the way it is and nothing much to do about, I guess.

I hope you're right regarding it taking longer. Yes $35 is not very much.. I have a nagging feeling it's not enough!
 The tax is calculated on the total "price+shipping" cost. I like the taxes in my country NOT.
