T/A prototype ????????

Ever since I saw this pic (From P. Herd´s Restauration guide) for the first time, I have been thinking about why the car looks like does. My theory is that it is a T/A prototype but I am defenitely not sure. Oddities: No T/A stripes, V8 emblems that shouldn´t be there and a strange angle on the exhaust tips. Is it a known car? Is there anyone who knows anything more about this car?

You are right. It is a T/A prototype. Would love to know where this car is. Maybe someone knows? Patrick

How about finding it in a barn, 2000 miles on the odo and a $1000 price tag? That would be something, wouldn´t it? :D

The car was probably smashed by Dodge a long time ago  ....or maybe redone (less likely) to an "ordinary" T/A.

Thanks for your input Patrick!

The car is also pictured in the "Best of Hot Rod, Chrysler Muscle Cars". Wonder if Barry Washington with the T/A registry knows anything about the car. Patrick  :?:

I am sure he knows everything there is to know about the car, such as the VIN, build date, and so on... Bad joke!

I am sure he knows about the car (not a joke)

Christer. If I remember right, there is a partial picture of the car towards the back of the book. I think they only show the front end of the car. I know its referred to as a T/A Prototype in one of my Challenger Books. Not sure which off hand. I think it would be very cool if this car could still be around!!!! Maybe Barry will post. Patrick

Hi guys,
Sorry for the delay, my PC died and I had to replace it, so I have not been online in almost a month.

The photos shown are of one of the T/A prototypes, but it's VIN and whereabouts are not known. The V-8 fender emblems would suggest a 318 car though...... any conspiracy theories? The first casting of T/A blocks have casting dates of Nov. 1969, so they deffinately pre-date the two known T/A pilot cars which were dated Feburary 4th. Prototype cars would predate Pilot cars, so where is this car today? I hope it pops up one day for sure! I would love to know that it still exists. Michigan plates are found in most of the "early" press realease photos because the Chrysler Proving Grounds was in Chelsea, MI what a shame it would be if this car was used for the crash testing?

Other photos of other pre-production T/As exist as well, I hope they all pop up one day. :-)

T/Ake care,
Barry

Talking about Chelsea proving ground... Here is an article about it. We do not mind that there is a pic of a Challenger included, do we? :D
