Challengers in the spotlight?

Is it just me or has their lately been a lot of coverage of our beloved E-body?

Reason's I believe this:
1. In the movie "Just Married" actor Ashton Kutcher drives a 1970 Challenger.
2. In the Audioslave music video "Show me how to live" the band does a knock off rendition of the classic "Vanishing Point" which highlights a 1970 Challenger.
3. In the ricer movie "2 Fast 2 Furious" a wonderful 1970 Hemi Challenger squares off against an import...might I add that the Chally wins its race, while the Yenko Camaro doesn't...typical- the bowtie always trying to keep the Dodge man down.

I think it reflects the growing interest in Mopars in particular over the last ten years. They are not the underdogs they used to be.

Well, not a challenger, but in the video of Mariah Carey's loverboy there are running a couple of mopars. Don't remember exactly which ones but I believe a Charger, RR, GTX where a few of those. I must have it somewhere on the puter, let me see...

- '68 yellow Charger
- '68 orange Roadrunner
- '69 green Charger

Although they're no e-body's she has some taste.

Also remember seen video a couple of times on vacation which used a 72-74 yellow challenger about the whole time. No names unfortunately.

I'm loathe to admit watching it, but the new series of 'Angel' just started on Sky 1 in the UK. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he has a large underground garage full of muscle cars to choose from, including Super Bee, Viper and big block Camero. Muscle cars equal ratings!

Anyway, the wife made me watch it.......

Aren't you confused with the serie Fast Lane ? Also a garage with lots of muscle cars including a '70 limegreen challenger...

No mate, definately 'Angel'. It's some convoluted twaddle about a vampire trying to redeem himself by putting right injustices (not that I was paying any attention :? ). If you have access to Sky 1, it'll be repeated shortly, they always are.

Ive seen a taco bell add on tv that features a red challenger.
Do you guys in europe have taco bell? I don't mean to sound stupid, just curious.

I think I heard they were going to open one in the UK but I have not heard anything since. Never seen one over here either but these things tend to happen in the Capital first and then spread out as and when they become popular.
Certainly no TV ad for them in my remote area of merry old England.

Hmm, that taco bell commerial - wasn't that red car a first gen GM f-body (a Firebird I thought)? Here's another chally sighting:

On MTV, the rock band 'Metallica' has a music video "Fuel" with a red 70' 440 6pack Challenger rippin' and snortin' through it. It's a very good video.

I just heard there using a challenger in the upcoming punisher movie. Don't know if there is any truth to this rumor though. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah

The '70 Hemi Challenger R/T clone in 2F2F was pretty damn cool. It was not right though, when the Spyder hit the nitrous, there is no way in hell it would have been able to catch up to the Challenger that quickly. IMO, the Challenger would have still left him in the dust (even though he cheated).

I case you don't know the 454 is a Chevy big block. The Hemi is 426 inches.

..and i just checked out my DVD and it is indeed a 1970 convertible in Natural Born Killers. Panther Pink as you say and wearing 14" Magnums. Looks like a 340 or an R/T but I only scanned a few mins into the film.

I know. I just don't know why someone would stick a 454 in a Challenger though.

Any chance it's a 383 block that's been bored and/or stroked to about 454 ci? Just a thought.

454 is a nice motor, its no hemi though

I don't think the movie car had a hemi or even a big block did it? It was just a rusty mock-up for the film. Apparently the dash was 80% body filler.

The 454 is a Chevy truck engine they happened to put in cars. Not the same as the Chryslers that were developed as race engines for passenger cars.

At least one of the Challengers in 2F2F had a hemi in it. You clearly see it when they are working on the car. Single Holley, chrome hemi rocker covers.

"The 454 is a Chevy truck engine they happened to put in cars. Not the same as the Chryslers that were developed as race engines for passenger cars."

Tsk, tsk. The 454 was a bored 427. The 427 was the Mark IV big block. The Mark IV was the infamous Mystery Motor that Nascar banned the same time they banned 426 hemis and 427 SOHC engines.

TRUCK ENGINE! :)

Thought your last post on the MMA board about the Nats situation was very well thought out and put Sandy. Did you see Henrys big outburst at the end of it which then vanished about an hour later? Someone DARED to change the board layout while he was not looking and made the General topics area public! That guy is such a dick. I really should give him a smack for the sake of humanity.

Heh, The Challenger indeed does have a 454, but it's a research engine though. Here is the page for the Challenger...

I didn't see if Henry replied to me. Is that what you mean ?

If so, why didn't you cut and paste it :D

What did he say ?

Truck engine ? It may have become one long after Mopar gave up making real engines (and, in fact, plain gave up), but it started of as the 450hp LS6

Isn't natural born killer Challenger RED? I'm sure it is............... 8)

Look for an R/T convertible in "Radio", and it is not new by any means, but there is a T/A shown breifly in "Born On The Fourth Of July". Also see the 1973 version of "Gone in 60 Seconds".

T/Ake care,
Barry

Well I am colour blind but it looks a pinky red colour to me. Hard to tell with all the dirt.

It has been ages since I watched it, but I think it was red, but badly faded from exposure. I will have to try and find it to watch it again. :D

On MTV there is a music video from the band "Yellowcard" I believe. It contains shots of an orange '70 Challenger....looks a lot like the one from 2F2F.
