Dave- I could not agree with you more, but what about the lower plates? Are they called lower shock mounts or leaf spring plates? Any idea where I might get my hands on two of them?

Why can't you use the originals?

Not exactly the same as the originals but will work;
A long time ago I bought a set. From what I remember, you could choose between three different lengths: 7", 8" or 9". That is maybe something to consider? (I might be wrong about the exact lengths. As I just wrote: It was a long time ago....)

The u-bolts can be bought from ebay seller rob1426 for instance:
