Yup, no doubting its an honest car but its not original, he claims an 'older paint job' and some corrosion present. Yes it could be a really good start for some body but as Daveman so clearly points out, too expensive, I reckon 8-9k meself. It's still a 72 on car and in factory 'poverty spec', not a 70-71 like the green 383 R/T that just got on here for less money, I know which one I'd be buying
A guy I know has a '72 Ralley 340. The body has some rust coming through so it needs a re-spray, a bad dash pad that needs a cap at least, and the 340 has a "knock" that sounds like mains.
I was in talks with him to buy the car a year or two ago. He wanted what I thought was too much (£9K I think it was) but I was hopeful of talking him down a bit. Then he saw a few Challengers advertised for much more and suddenly decided his car was worth at least £12K. I walked away and he still has it. He is one of these "I will fixer her up one day" dreamers.
Hey if people want to pay silly money for non-R/T cars then that is up to them.
Personally I don't see the point of selling my low mileage 170mph Corvette (that does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, runs 13.4s all day long, never needs anything doing to it except a wash now and again, and returns 30mpg on the motorway) just to buy something valued the same that will need thousands thrown at it and it will still be a slow, bad handling pig to drive that only runs 18s on the strip and returns 18mpg.
This is why I am still driving the plastic pig. My head is ruling my heart at the moment and life is too short to spend most of it under a car in the garage. Even though I would LOVE to do that with this car. I think it is a fantastic car to base a clone with. It would be pointless restoring it. It would be worth more and look better as a clone of a better spec car like a 340 Ralley. Or even a T/A look-alike.
That's the crux of the problem Davemsn, these people see another car for sale 'like theirs' (which in reality is nothin like as good or desirable as the one being offered for sale) and suddenly their estimation of its worth goes up They say they'll hang on to get the figure they want but in reality the car deteriorates and eventually sells for a huge chunk less, clever fuckers aren't they?
That thing is barely worth half of what they want,,not to dog it but ,wrong year ,wrong color ,non rt, ,with A/C , I bet there is rust under the vynal top ,alot of work there to make it look somewhat cool other wise it is more of a chick car, especially with that color

Overall I think it looks good. The front seats needs new covers though and the front bumper has a small dent in the middle.
To me it looks as if the rear/low part of the vinyl top has been fixed in a not so serious way. The chrome lists line up with the lower edge of the rear screen. It should not look that way if you want to have an original look.
