1970 440 Challenger R/T - SOLD

Postby dave-r » 13 Oct 2010 10:58

The real deal. Completely numbers matching JS23U0B. Made one year only. One of only 1,886 automatics made.

Very well known car. Runner up best of show at the 2009 Mopar EuroNats. Many other awards over the years.

Bad points.
Engine needs new cylinder heads (one is leaking water externally).
Car is modified away from standard.
You will get a LOT of attention from the general public everywhere you go in it.

I can carry out any work to fix this minor problem for the new owner if needed. There are several options on how to do that so any potential buyer is free to discuss this with me.

Good points.
Goes like poo off a stick and corners like it is on rails.

Very reluctant sale hence the price.
£29,000. (about $46,400 USD at the moment)

These $599 heads would fix the car.

http://www.aeroheadracing.com/id6.html

I have reduced the price of the car by £1000 (about $1600 USD) to cover the cost of repair.

The cracked head will be getting welded before christmas.

The other head was welded in the same way many many years ago and has been no problem so i have great faith that this will cure the problem.

When the repaired head goes back on the car, and I have tested it to make sure it is OK, the price will be going up £1000.

Hello Dave!

Sorry for beeing so quiet on this board.

I just noticed that "your" car is for sale in the swedish magazine Bilsport #10 2011. I was a bit surprised when I saw the ad.

He did say he had to put it up for sale to keep his wife happy. But he says he has put a high figure on it to make it unlikely to sell. Very much what i did really.

Nice to hear from you anyway Chris.

Read what I said again.

He advertised it as soon as he took delivery. He says his wife only let him buy it because he promised her he was going to sell it for a profit. So he has advertised it for a larger amount in the hope it will not sell.

That is his story and I have no reason to doubt it.
After all. I did the same thing. The problem was someone DID offer me the full amount and given the other factors involved it was for the best that I took the money.

But at the end of the day it is his car, and he is free to sell it or keep it or do anything else he likes with it.

I did warn him it was "a beast" and that it would be difficult for him to run the car without some mechanical knowlege or appreciation for a car that sounds rough like a dragster and is loud, and agressive.

Not sure he listened to me though. :D

Will will see what happens. If it is not his "cup of tea" he will sell it I am sure. But as I said. That is non of our business.
