1970 Challenger in the UK - newbie

Postby Sublime For 40 » 14 May 2013 11:59

Hi.

My name is Matt and I live in the UK.
I have been following Mopars, and more specifically, E Bodies since about 1982 when I saw a Plum Crazy Challenger at a show - the car was titled "The Artful Dodger" after the light-fingered young scamp in the Dickens book 'Oliver Twist'.

I imported (from Ohio) the attached Sublime 440 last July.
Originally a 318 car built in L.A. with white roof and white interior, the original colour was Sublime.

I've had great fun with it so far - most people stare open-mouthed as I rumble past.

Put it this way ; what is there not to like about the best pony car shape ever ? Well, it has a bad drink problem but that's kind of the point. Impresses adults and frightens young children.

Just added shot of my car next to Jim Smith's car in Kidderminster, UK.

Very nice! You'll have to compare notes with the Fox family's '70 Challenger, which is located over Bristol way :D

Hi Matt, a good friend of mine now owns the "Artful Dodger". He bought it in about '98, having been hooked around the same time as you, and kept in contact with the original owner and tried to buy it for a number of years. The car was now wearing a yellow paint job, and Pete sold me his RD 350lc Yam to put towards returning it to its original Plum Crazy colour. However Pete really went to to town on it, rebuilding it from the ground up, to a very high standard, collecting numerous awards and magazine features along the way. I think it now only comes out for events at the Pod or Billing as he's terrified of damaging it! Suppose that's the flipside of owning an absolute minter. Cracking looking car you have there by the way,
All the best, Scott
