70 Challenger.....what was I thinking?

So I want to pick up a mopar to restore and use for promotional purposes for my website. I find this '70 Challenger with "a little rust". Well....you probably know how that went. I didn't do enough homework on this and wouldn't have started the project had I known how much it would cost and how much time it would take. Well, we are over the hump and things are looking better. I am sure that most knowledgeable Mopar enthusiasts wouldn't have taken this on. We completely replace the rear quarters, the front and rear valances, the tail light panel, the rear window panel above the trunk, some floor pans, trunk floor and extensions, replaced the deck lid and front fenders with original parts. Here is the progression of it. The painting should be completed next week and I can start reassembly. I have a lot of new aftermarket parts to put in it and some originals. It won't be a show car, but it will be a nice, FAST one. I have a BUILT 440 Magnum from 1970 that I will be dropping in it.

It's looking really good. You're on the home stretch.

I am sure that most knowledgeable Mopar enthusiasts wouldn't have taken this on.

The sad truth is that most really clean cars are long gone. Most of what is being restored today would have been parts cars ten years ago. That's why so many new panels are being reproduced.

Keep posting pictures. I love watching these things come together.

Here's what will be going in it. It has a tunnel ram and 2 750's. I bought an extra hood to cut but am keeping the original one in case I want to remove the ram and go with a singe 4 bbl. I might even go to a 6 pack set up.
I also replaced the stacks with a better looking scoop, which will more easily be replicated in the 1/64 scale cars I will be having made up for promotions for my site. This should be really cool at the Hotwheels conventions!

wow, i'm blown away by how much you have done on that car.
brilliant job. it was not for the faint-hearted. it didn't look half bad originally in red, couldn't see too much rust on the outside. Maybe the seller was hoping you would only view it from 10meters away! Are you going with stripes? if so what colour?

I am going with the 1970 black stripes. This will have some slight modifications in order for it to be a "personalized" car for my website, The Toy Peddler. I have plates that read "TTP". I have R/T emblems that will also be modifide to be T/T/P. The side stripe will also have T/T/P in place of the R/T. (if you've seen Muscle Car on saturday, they built a 70 'Cuda for Dana White of the UFC and had UFC on his side stripe, but I thought of mine before they did his, so THAT idea is MINE!)
I will also have my web site address in the tinted area above the windshield. My website is the No.1 site in the world for buying and selling toy cars, so this just makes sense. I will eventually have 1/64 scale models made of it for promotional purposes, possibly by Johnny Lightning or Greenlight. I don't think Mattel is going to work with me on this one.
All of the personalized modifications I am putting on can easily be removed or replaced in order to bring it back to a more original look, but my 13,000 members really want to see this be a promotional car for the website.
I hope to have this ready the first week in Oct. for the national Hot Wheels convention in L.A., but at this point, I may just have to trailer it down, being mostly complete but maybe not driveable.
I believe those are some Amercan Racing rims. I plan on replacing them eventually. I also plan on adding disc brakes, power brakes, power steering, air and some suspension upgrades and other modifications that will make this a better driver. It will be a work in progress over the next couple of years, if not longer. From what I've been told, this type of build is never actually considered "done".
I will be coming in here to show the progress and getting some advice from you more knowledgeable mopar people.

Excellent job. Were your rear quarters from goodmark? Did you have any trouble with them fitting with the rear deck panel? Mine was a little tricky but I had a whole lot more removed then you. Thanks for posting the pics and good luck. So far it looks like way more then just a daily driver.

Since this car is going to be slightly modified in order to promote my website, The Toy Peddler, I have decided to modify the R/T logo. This is the new trunk emblem. What do you think? Hey, did you see Dana Whites Cuda with the UFC logo on the hockey side stripes. Pretty cool stuff.

Would you trust these to stop you after running the 1/4? I guess I should expected this after a couple of sandblasts and not running for SEVERAL years, but WOW! Sand, grease and cobwebs. I probably should have just gone to discs, but that will be a project a few years down the road.

Get it? Do these jeans.....nevermind. For the purists out there, I still have the original hood, that won't be modified in case I decide to dump the ram and scoop down the road. But this will make a pretty cool looking 1/64 car to promote my site www.thetoypeddler.com BTW, if you are in to collecting diecast you should check it out. There's still a lot of work to do on this, but I had to share the latest pic.
