My N-96 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 sixpack,4-speed.

Postby Eddie » 17 Oct 2006 20:53

Its been a long 7 years and more money then I ever dreamed about. It has been worth every penny and then some. I am old enough to remember when these cars where unwanted and discarded, shunned for more efficient and smaller pedestrian autos. It was a sad time to be a motorhead. No more, now when I take it out I am justified because I have never been more excited and dangerous! It runs great and does everything I ask of it. Enjoy.

Suspension, its built to turn with 1.14 Torsion bars, firm feel 20:1 ratio steering, chromemoly lower control arm studs with black poly bushings, rear Trans Am style fram hung sway bar, Mancini Racing XHD rear springs,Edelbrock IAS shocks. The stock wheel and tires are the limiting factor in my quest for the perfect bolt on no cutting/welding suspension, the next step would be the XV stage II kit but I WONT cut the car period.

It looks real nice!!

How well do you like your suspension set up. I'm looking at doing my 70 suspension, and would like some insight on it. I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet, other than make it handle way better than it does now.

Thanks all for the kind words! Jdb840-The suspension is great, it is rather "stiff",(no pun intended), you can definitely feel every imperfection on the road, however it is a beast in the turns, I enjoy RoadRacing and I wanted to set the car up with the best BOLT ON parts I could get. The next level would be the XV Suspension systems, yes they are pricey but they are engineered specifically for the Challenger. They make bolt on parts but the ultimate would be the Level II stuff, but I will NOT cut the car! With 184 1970 Dodge Challenger N-96 cars made, what would you guys do? It is a moot point anyway as I could never afford the 50-75 thousand to install the Level II.

Thanks Jack, and yes its an original N-96 car,(shaker), I am grateful that I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The sellers wife came outside and joined us as we talked about all his cars she wanted to do "something with". I saw an opportunity and asked them both what do they want to get rid of. I was interested in any E or B Body from 1970-74 for the E-body and 68-70 for B-body. He pointed to the R/T and said if you can come up with 7k today its yours. It was Fri. March 13, 1997. I was apprehensive!!! :s026:

  One of my all time favorite Mopars, a Shaker '70 Challenger. I've only seen one in real life. It's an R/T SE fe5 but it's kinda wavy.

Friday the 13th turned out to be your lucky day.

Thanks, 472 I really lucked into it. Have you ever read in the auto magazines about how to find your dream car? Take a protractor and circle 30 miles from your home and viola' your dream car will be somewhere within this radius! It's completely true. Applies to USA only, our bros. overseas unfortunately don't ussually have this "luxury" except maybe canada. And if I were looking for a citroen, Jag, Daimler, Ferrari,British Leyand, ect.. the shoe would be on the other foot! This car sat 6 miles from my home and had been in "storage" since 1978. And in 1975 when I was a senior in high school I owned a 1970 Plymouth Superbird for all of two weeks! It was a 440 sixpack car too! The insurance wanted 1200.00 then to insure it. I was heartbroken and sold it within a few days. That "taste" NEVER left my "mouth" I vowed I would own that special car again some day.

Reminds me of a car in my neighborhood. I have never seen it but I would love to see it. It is a ´71 R/T with only 25K on the clock, condition "as new" and the same owner since 1974. My friend who knows the owner is trying to persuade him to let us see it. Will I bring my digi-cam? You bet!

Good luck on that 71 R/T Christer. I bet it's in perfect condition! Has anyone in your area seen it? Yes, take the digi, let us know what you find out and good luck sounds very interesting.

No, it has never been in any mags and it feels like it rarely has seen much the streets during the last decades. Am I eager to see it or what? :s007: 383" car, manual I think....I´ll keep you posted.

Yes, do that it sounds like a real "find". It will be interesting to see it's condition. If it's that closely safeguarded I bet it's pristine! Lightning McQueen want's to know" wanna race"
