Thanks Jimiboy, to be frank with you the grip was not to good, i was using 255/60 Goodyear GT4 tires that are deasignated for 4x4 cars. They are hard as a rock so i was spinning tires a lot. For burnout no need to use water, i push the linelock and need around 1800 rpms to loose the grip, so what i am looking for is to check my times with Hoosier tires 295/50 that i have now, the grip is absolute on these tires. My little 318 at the end is quite strong, i think in the range of 400 Hp, had no problem with 440 equiped with Hughes camshaft , rpm intake and Holley carb. The another advantage is that my car weights only 1480 kg without driver

Many guys around here are surprised of my 340 aswell... :D I just wait for the moment to race Roland with his yellow chally and his 383... (I think he dare not do it) Attention Roland!?
I just long for the moment when i can fill the 340 up with better flowing heads/ cam combo and hunt some times at the strip, really curios...
I hope i can get to middle 13 or low 13 at some point, it would be awesome. :P

Jimiboy, I am pretty sure that with well done 340, good tires and not to heavy car you can be even. On hard tires spinning all the time i did 14,12 with my 318 that is never considered as an option when to build the engine. Now with good grip i belive that i can be in the range of high 13. Hughes engines is doing small block stroker that gives you 426 inch, you can reach 600 hp with this engine. making simple calculation with Daves maths you can reach low 12 when you put 400 hp on the track with car that weigts around 3500 lbs.
As my friend says "weight is the cheapest Horsepower"

:) I bet i have to do some more then just the Hp's from the engine to reach them 12's, right? Trans, converter, rearend/ gears, tires and maybe the suspension aswell to reach 12' ? It would be more then cool... :s003: But sounds far away :D I believe you are right that weight is cheap...
What math are you talking about when you are making this figures?
What speed are we talking about when driving 12 sec? I was able to drive with a G-tech once, and then i drove 103,7mph/ 14,17 and 0-60mph at 5,7sec as best... But then there was not the same mod's to the engine and the ignition was not in order.. Now i have Airgap intake and Holley 650, headers and ignition in order.. I find it harder to find the same grip despite i have bigger tires.. :D It feels like with better grip there would be possible to drive under 14..(?) :p: I should really like get to 13 anyhow... And a 0-60mph closer to 5 would be fun... :P
Did you use ported 587 /596 heads or was it J-heads, i do not remember?

Indeed i have changed a lot o stuff the biggest improvment recently was switching from this 255/6o tires to Hoosier 295/50, tire is dot approved so you can use it on a street, rubber compound is very soft comparing to regular street tre so i expect very very fast usage, but you never get sth for nothing. Stall converter is 2500, rear end is complete stock with 3.23 gears, i am just afraid with this grip how long it can last, trans is rebuild 727 with manual valve bod and a lot of stronger parts in it. Front and rear suspension is changed to alterktion and four link system. It saves around 120 kg total ! and handling is like a dream even with these high profile tires.
Heads i do not remember exatly but i was 360 J heads, we just installed bigger valves and ported little bit. I am using speed demon 750 carb, as with 650 was not enough( funny thing but everybody was saying that 750 is too big for this engine) it seems dave Hughes was right.
Maths is the spreadsheet Dave-r has done to make calculation easier.

340 is a dream engine to modify, i started to work with my 318 as because of budget i could not afford buying new one, or at least i thoght it will be cheaper solution.
Now i have a chance to buy 500 stroker that was build 2 ears ago, engine was pretty strong putting around 550 hp, unfortunatelly it takes 1 liter of oil for every 100 km. I hope we can rebuild it and have sth strong for not that much money, will see how much they ask for it.

Here is a photo from an racing event in 2008, heavy braking before a 90 deg turn> the straight was long enough to reach 180 km/h and then you need to turn 90 deg turn. My brake bias was wrong as i had to much force in rear wheels wghat was causing their lock during hard braking. And this was the result :

Yeah I had to adjust my bias to the max to stop the rears locking up under hard braking.

Still think your car looks fantastic.
