Hi chaps,
I was asked by dave to post the pictures of a 72 Challenger i found in a field near where i lived, it had been sitting for 10 thats 10 years windows open, heads off the 440 6 pak block 6 pak in a barn near by, Unbelievable,
My mate John Challis bought the car as I had too many projects on the go and it was exactly what he was looking for.
It even had timing slips for 11.8s in the glove box from 3 years earlier
that was quick then for a all steel street car, the owner had been injured in a m/cycle accident and took it off the road, where it sat awaiting restoration. Sad............... not so sad here it is before ( the day after i found it )
and now ( nearly finished) engine went in yesterday, built by Dave Billadeau at Brighouse Speed.

I have NEVER seen a HOOD like that EVER in my life.
Then in one pic the tall scoop is on the left and in another is on the right?
Guess the pic is reversed?? anyhow.

Looks like it originally had AC by the firewall. What sort of heater box are you putting in it? Nice job! The T/A hood looks good on it, too. Where did you find it?

Was this hood available (or option) on factory original 440 + 6 cars? I have a friend who has a panther pink car with this hood on it. He claims it’s original and it was a 440 + 6 car. I believe it is a 71. I thought these were only on T/A cars, but who knows with the options list they had back then.

Your right. What an illusion.I see it now. It's a Ralley hood with a big scoop in the middle.

In answer to Roadrunner's question, a T/A hood could be had on a 440 Sixpack car in 1970. The fender tag would have a N96 code on it for a fresh air hood, which could mean a shaker or Trans Am hood. It should be a late 70 car to have the T/A hood as I think it was a 1970-only item. Considering the parts were available, it could have been added by a dealer to a 1971 car......... the only rule is that the "rules" are just broad guidelines when it came to adding options at the dealership to make the sale happen in those days.

After thinking about it, I think it was a 70 after all.
