I like the throttles completely (or almost completely) closed at idle if possible and get the right idle speed by first of all using enough initial advance and then by drilling correct sized holes in the throttle blades to get the speed i want and at the same time tune the idle mixture screws to just a slight touch leaner than max manifold vacuum.
That is all I do and it works for me.

But my metering block is from a 850DP Holley rather than the original 2bbl one.

I think you have done a great job with your car Dave! I like the combo of that that tailwing, looks great with vinylroof and everything just blend in to a sweet overall look... Wheels really are something different... :thumbsup: :D

I also really like to see full size wiew of your avatar pic Dave! (Man, i dig those wings... i really do not like wings that much normally, specially not the other type of wing "go-go"(?) but that looks neat, follow the lines better)

The only down side to that classic show is you are stuck there for 4 days.

But it will round off my year very nicely. :wink:

Couple of minor updates.

Removed the plasic radiator overflow/expansion bottle and replaced it with something a bit nicer looking.

Replaced the KYB shocks with QA1 12-way adjustables.

Didn't ride out as far as I wanted because I couldn't get away until late in the afternoon. But I did about 30 miles of fairly twisty road.

Before I fitted the new shocks I adjusted them to about the same stiffness as the old KYB shocks as a starting point. Three clicks of the adjuster up from the softest setting.

No suprises then that the car felt very much like it did before.

The rear shocks have rubber rings on them that indicate the max amount that the shock has compressed. When I got home they indicated that the shocks had compressed about half way. That just about equals the amount of ground clearence I have. Although I never heard the exhaust ground at all.

I think I will try them one click softer next time out to see how that feels and also see if the shocks compress more or if the springs are doing the work.

Had a very pleasant ride out in the Challenger today. Before I set out I adjusted the shocks to just two clicks from dead soft.

The ride was much nicer and going over holes in the road surface felt much better on my piles. :lol:

I am starting to get just a little body roll on sharp bends now (there was no noticeable body roll at all before) but not enough to make any difference at normal road driving speeds.

Happy with that so far. Just got to get rid on an annoying engine bog I get occasionally when I floor the accelerator. Not sure what is causing it but i am going to start by going up on the power valve rating to see if that has any effect. I might have gone too low.

thats is the nice thing about these shocks, for nice easy crusin soften them up, and for the track 2 o3 clicks and they are nice and firm,they are fun to play around with,

and yes i drove mine today and had a bog off idle ,yea back to the power valve again,do they change fuel there dave?

we have 5 different blends for different seasons and the summer time blend seems to run the best

They don't change the fuel here. It's the same shit they sell all year round. We don't get the temperature extremes you get over there.

Or at least we never used to. :roll:

The thing with my suspension is that it is already pretty stiff all round. I don't really need stiff shocks because the suspension is doing all the work.

It will be great at the drags strip to be able to go a lot softer on the front and firmer on the rear. That should be me some good weight transfer.

the thing about the fuel here is is not very stable i have seen it start to break down in a 2 or 3 weeks, and yes we get alot of temp swings so the fuel acts up a bit ,but i still get some swill from a crappy bilge station sometimes

yes those shocks back them al the way soft and see what the car does , it changes alot, mine drove all cushy like an imperial lol :lol2:

I think the fuel blend these days is much more volatile when fresh, then quickly evaporates and loses it's combustion "spontaneity" if you will. My dirt bike and saws really notice it especially with the premix oil additive on the two strokes.

As for the stiffer "sports" ride suspension, it seemed better handling and quicker response have given way to a smoother ride for me. Maybe it's just the roads around here but it's gotta be easier on the old Chally too. :)

I did this canyon route to the coast last weekend, 14 miles of 1st and 2nd gear. The whole way. Even a nasty 25% slope section which I was glad to be going downhill.

A lowered ride with stiff suspension would have been miserable.

The bog seems to be when the outer carbs open. It may just be a pair of larger pump squirters I need on them. Or a restriction in the feed to them. Remember my outer carbs have a channel cut into the fuel bowl edge to get fuel up to the pump squirters.

and you might have some varnish , or crud on those channels, heck i dont know ,i always forget you have a 6pac,and 6 pac abs, and those carbs are a completly different animal, :s014:

That looks almost like one of many places in the UK that Jon. :)

Looking at that road surface though I think I would rather be in my Cherokee than my Challenger. :nod:

Sorry not to be of any help with your carb problem Dave, just one 4BBL is bad enough. :s008: Are those vacuum secondaries on the six packs?

Yes it would have been better with the 4x on that road for sure. Once committed ya just gotta forge on though. The Challenger is set a little high up which helps for road debris and the occasional stream crossing.

My wife's first and only drive ended badly when there happened to be a rock in the road. Instead of going around it she center punched it on the bell housing. :rage: Lucky it did only minor damage (to our relationship. :lol:)
