JackT's 68 Hemi GTX

Postby JackT » 16 May 2005 6:27

OK, this is my new gem. I still have the R/T SE in progress so I'm still a Challenger owner, but I had to have this car. It's a real Hemi 4-speed car and it runs GREAT!

Great car you got there. Nice colour combo – dark green and black. Sure looks mean to me.

I have reworked the engine compartment and given the fuel system the dual quads it is supposed to have. Also, I got the GTX grille, taillights and rear finish panel so it doesn't look like a Roadrunner any more - much more handsome than it was when I got it. My apologies to the traditionalists out there - I like the chrome valve covers and they are much easier to keep clean than the original wrinkle black ones!

Maybe Jack will chime in Danny, but I think those shifters were Inland units. Not known for the best quality shifting. It took a real man to handle that beast! Those Hemi powered 60's B-Bodies were fast and violent! I love it! (BTW, that is very rare car)

In 1968 the shifter was indeed the Inland. My car was blessed with a Hurst shifter (found in 1969 models) by the previous owner and I have no intention of changing it for now. A trick I have heard of for console 4-speed cars is to convert the Inland lever to bolt to the Hurst shifter where you can't see the alteration..... instant correct appearance and better function. BTW, further posts about the new Hemi for the GTX will be posted here. I'm taking pictures as I go and will post them as I get the film processed.

I have to thank our Dublin lad for the avitar.... I just gave her a new home. Thanks for the good wishes re the strike being over, but it was "only" three months without a paycheck - still a long time. I went back to work this past Thursday and it feels good to be there.

It's the actors turn to walk out now though isn't it?

These things are sent to try us but we seem to get there in the end eh?

We'll see if they go out or not.... there are now two contracts (the DGA's and the WGA's) in extant that can be templates for their new agreement. Let's hope they can work something out without walking out.
