Road trip to Bonneville Salt Flats with new Challenger, new Corvette, and new Cadillac.

In the latter part of the show they drive the cars up the salt and actually break a class speed record.

Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer television programmes are only available to users to download or stream (Click to Play) in the UK. However, BBC Worldwide is working on an international version, which we will make available as soon as possible.

If I remember right the Dodge was the poorest on the windy roads (by a long stretch) and the Caddy (what would GM do without the Ozzy Holden platform?) the best.

On the Salt the Dodge hit 150 in the mile (just - and with a bit of aerodynamic cheating). The Caddy 160. and the Corvette 170.

The best bits are deliberatly setting off car alarms in the street by revving their engines and getting pulled by the police (twice).

Eddie. They also use the road that is used in "Vanishing Point".

Maybe the footage will pop up on youtube?

I think the idea was to see what speed could be reached from a standing start in the first mile.

The targets were 150mph for the Challenger, 160mph for the Caddy and 170mph for the Corvette. Each car eventually met that target.
In fact the Corvette was the fastest stock production car ever through those timing lights and set a new track record as such.

The Top Gear crew could only get a visa for making a "factual" documentary.
After their prank last year of driving through the deep south with "Gay Love", "We hate NASCAR" etc on their cars and a dead cow strapped to the hood of one car, they were told they could only enter the US if they only made a factual documentary. Hence the references to this during the clips.

Also. Chrysler would not lend them a Challenger for the show. Chrysler were worried that they might take the piss out of the car.
So Richard Hammond went to a dealership and bought one at $10,000 over list price.

That was both entertaining and impressive! I love that show! Wish I could recieve the Speed Channel. Yes, Dave, those Nevada roads look eerily familiar dont they. I would like to see if any G.M. car can click off a 7:22.1@Nurumburgring

i had the privelige to see it over the weekend my nephew downloaded it off the net it was a good episode i had to laugh that chrysler wouldnt lend them a challenger so they had to buy 1 in a hurry & paid 10 grand above list price just to get 1 it was out classed by the other 2 cars in performance & handling but had the best note by far
cheers ian

To be fair though.

I understand the Challenger is a lot cheaper?

The Corvette is a sports car not a muscle car.

The Caddy is really an Australian Holden and not an American car. :D

When "The Hampster" bought a '69 Charger Clarkson told him;

"You bought the wrong car. You should have bought a Challenger".

The lady who used to have a part share in my Challenger met him in a Hotel once and told him all about our Challenger. I think she convinced him of the cars virtues.
