actually i was just wondering when someone was going to reply, cause most mopar nuts (like you ) already know that ,i remember him when i was young, and my amx buddies remind me of him and donahue, both greats in there time, and titus too!dave-r wrote:I took that as read. I though every Mopar fan on the planet knew of the Savage #42?
also peter revsomn of revlon cosmetics,my amx buddie has a pic of revson , he drove javlins, had nixon on his helmet!airfuelEddie wrote:Dave, you must realize here in the midwest Nascar and drag racing rule. The real drivers that turn left and Right were never that popular. Then when the Indy Racing League went on its own to promote more American road race drivers,(which never materialized and now they are re-uniting with CART as it should have been all along), but Nascar took off during that period. In the Indy Cars "glory Days" during the Mario, Unser, Carter, Bettenhausen, Savage, Posey ect days the same people knew these as 'household names' today everyone has a number 8 or 3 on their cars, person, homes, ect. Drew those men in those pics have balls bigger than my ol ladys belly. As far as Red avitar, send her to me at once!
Boy Drew you have an impressive knowledge of that type of Racing, of which I greatly admire. Didnt Peter Revson get killed at Watkins Glen? Or was it in Europe during Formula 1? I have always thought Sports Car Racing and Formula 1 were the ultimate test of Guts&Glory for both driver and Team! Thats why my engine is going to be a pretty serious endurance engine with peak power taking a 'back seat' to durability. I dont know the answer to your question however. I do know that Mario Andretti has won at Formula 1, Indy 500, Daytona 500 Stock Car Race, USAC Sprint Car Champion among others. The only driver I think to have 'conquered' all forms of Professional Racing.drewcrane wrote:who won the first iroc race and championship?and what car was used?
nice job bob, yes donahue ran alot of different cars, and won alot of races he was really good!jh27n0b wrote:I.R.O.C. = International Race Of Champions The first race was in 1974 won by Mark Donahue driving a Porche Carrera. Then the Camaros took over until 1991 when Dodge provided the cars. Sometime in the late 90's pontiac provided Trans Am's until the series ended in early 2007. Earlier this year anything left of IROC was auctioned.

yea it is kinda sad cause those guys were on the cutting edge with that kind if racing , there kids are around to tell some stories, i think i will attand the trans am race in pueblo,co. june 12 and maybe get an in car vid in #42airfuelEddie wrote:Drew, I apologise for getting a little off track but have you seen the Video Documentary about Grand Prix Racing in the 1960's&70's narrated by Stacy Keach called the Quick and the Dead? Peter Revson and Francois Cervet who was Sir Jackie Stewarts teammate in the early 70's is interviewed about why he races F-1 and how he prepares for the races. It's 1 of my most prized videos! It's Sad video as well most of the men are Dead. Open wheel and Stock Car racing was quite hazardous in the glory days wasnt it.
Man, wish I was there to see that! Please get a video of that car Drew, with the sound it made idling by, I bet it would sound wicked at speed!drewcrane wrote:yea it is kinda sad cause those guys were on the cutting edge with that kind if racing , there kids are around to tell some stories, i think i will attand the trans am race in pueblo,co. june 12 and maybe get an in car vid in #42airfuelEddie wrote:Drew, I apologise for getting a little off track but have you seen the Video Documentary about Grand Prix Racing in the 1960's&70's narrated by Stacy Keach called the Quick and the Dead? Yes I do! The scene where Yvette Mimieux says," is this what you want" referring to the blood of one of the drivers killed! lol what a great movie, it's one of my favs of all time. Along with Vanishing point and Bullitt and of course the Rednecks Dirty Mary Crazy Larry BTW, James Garner was a 'professional' driver competing in the Baja 500/1000 in the 1960's driving a Ford Bronco along with Mickey Thompson?drewcrane wrote:remember that movie with j. garner grand prix, it sounds like that lolit wines it really does
