I agree, that would have been the car to make. I was waiting for the charger to come out and was very disappointed when it had 4 doors.

The problem is no one can really sell enough two doors except in certain markets (Corvette, Viper etc)

Another problem is the Fiat deal, I think we look back on this, and wish they made a 2 or 4 door anything,, after the 1st of the year sweeping business decisions will be made that unfortunately must ensure survivability of the Company. :cry:

Between the govt wanting to get rid of them and Fiat looking to get back into the US market, the Chrysler we knew is dead. The Chryler Group (or whatever they're calling themselves nowadays) is nothing but a hollow shell for selling Fiats here in the USA. Damlier <sp> gutted the company when they all but killed the R&D, what Chrysler was famous for. Hopefully they won't lose their halo cars (Challenger, Viper, the trucks) but I think once the lifecycle of the current vehicles is over, it will be a completely different (not altogether bad or good) company.
I think the company to watch will be the new Saturn, what with new owner Roger Penske running the show there.

Don't be too pessimistic.
They already decided to keep the Viper alive, and they know there will still be people around for whom a car is not just a way to get from one place to another.
Alfa Romeo is also a sports brand (although they were really screwed up big time in their last deal with GM), I believe they'll keep market-specific cars alive, and I don't think you'll be seeing too many Fiats in the USA anytime soon.

I heard Saturn was dead because Penske backed out. As for the new Chargers..... I called a friend of mine who owns Dependable Dodge here in the San Fernando Valley and asked him how those new Coronets were moving. Really, they had a problem before when the Charger and Challenger both being two-door cars. They wound up competing for the same buyers and the Challenger ate into the Charger market. Bringing out the 4-door Charger and 2-door Challenger as they did this time was a smart move even if it id disappoint the fans of the classic 2-door Chargers.

The Charger was just a two-door Coronet with a fastback when it came out and had 4-door relatives in its past. The Challenger comes from strictly 2-door lineage so they did get it right.
