1968 Coronet R/T

My mate Andy just bought this Coronet R/T.

It came into the UK as a nice restoration, all numbers matching and all documents. Nice example.

The guy that imported it sent it to be caged and strengthened straight away. Then fitted a 800hp engine. It cost a LOT of money. First time the owner drove it it scared the poo out of him and he sold it off rather than drive it again.

It quickly passed through a couple of other people. The last one using it at the EuroNats where it ran 10.8 with a slipping transmission. My mate Andy heard it was for sale while also at the 'Nats and put a deposit down on it straight away. He then went off on holiday for a couple of weeks. Getting home on Tuesday night.

Wednesday at 6am he set off for Yorkshire and paid the rest of the money. He has got it for a fraction of what it cost to build.
Wednesday night he was at our local cruise with it.

Me and him left to go home at the same time and with him leading we both did rolling burnouts out of the shopping mall car park and drove like teenagers all the way home. I had a grin all over my face all night after that. :mrgreen:

Yep. Andy heard Budgie was after it at the Nats so Andy got in there quick with a deposit. Budgie was not best pleased. :lol:

Just surprised that Jerry let it go so quick as it was such a cracker. :shock:

If it's 800 HP it's gotta be either a Indy or Brodix headed plant. 8) very nice B-Body! :thumbsup:

Looks BIG anyhow! :mrgreen: (Whats that can on top of the carb? Some protection against dirt while it's parked? Never seen nothing like that)

Btw, how come some people dare to drive hotrods etc without any filter to protect their new shiny machines with plenty of big dollar$ planted in them? :roll:

Those are B1 heads. :wink:

It has a "six pack" lift-off hood which at the time of the photo was in a flower bed and I was going to hide it if it had been as light to carry as I thought but actually it was pretty heavy so I didn't bother. :lol:

The car should do 9.90 with a good transmission.

Found the spec;

It's an original 68 RT 440 auto car, it is fitted with a 800+HP (he has the dyno sheets) 572 inch B1 motor, caltracs, Hauser built chrome moly cage, nut and bolt resto, imaculate underneath as on top, brand new legendary interior, Borla mufflers on massive pipes.

A quote about the heads from the last owner.

I know they flowed in excess of 420cfm on the intake apparently that's good enough for 1000hp+ . The motor was built by Geof Hauser and made 802 lb-ft of torque at 4700 revs and 812 hp at 5800, they stopped there as it had already gone way above what they were looking for so were working on it probably been 850ish hp it was climbing quite nicely upto 5800 so see no reason why not

dave, on the sat night at the nats on the power tour marc ran 10.5 i,m sure he said they ran 10.1 earlier that day and a 10.0 at york the week before

I am not surprised. Andy has a new transmission to drop in as soon as he gets the chance.

I REALLY like this car. Can you tell? :lol:

The funny tin thing on top of the carb is a screen to keep large bits out. The top of the carb is too close to the top of the hood scoop for a filter.

Bigger scoop or dropped filter base might work?

your not on your own there :lol: i think we could all find room for it seeing it front wheels up off the start line is an even better site , think i,d have to drop the carb a tad a keep the scoop its looks great as it, is cant beat a six pack scoop :thumbsup:
