Irelands first president had a MOPAR

One of the lads on another site posted this.

Eamonn DeValera was a T.D. for Clare. As President this was the car that was used to take him on his annual visit to the Ennis Show, so well known in the Clare area. A number of years back the De Valera family offered the car to the people of Ennis. It was restored locally and is now on permanent display in a specially built glass fronted building at the rear of the County Library in Ennis.

What is this, model/ year? Never seen this car i believe. I think the front end kind of reminds of a Ford -46. Would turn out cool as a Hot rod... :D

Is there anymore pics?

That is probably the same sort of car my Dad used to date my Mother in back when they met in the Army and he was in charge of the motor pool.

The officer really in charge always went away early for the weekends so as soon as he was away the best cars were "hired" out by my Dad. :lol:

He used to use the best car himself of course so the Generals Dodge (flags on the front and everything) was his most weekends. My mother used to have to hide on the floor in the back when ever he drove in or out past the gate guards but apart from that it was a cool car to date in. :mrgreen:

There was no car production from 1939-1945 due to a bit of a war that was going on.
After that date it took years for the factories to switch back to car production and the first few years after the war they just turned out the old 1939 models.

The other factor was that there were an awful lot of you Yank chaps over here at the time.

I dont know if that Dodge would be good 'Rod' material. Wait till you see a side shot and you'll know why! Historically,, the Post-War Chrysler/Dodges were concieved by a VERY conservative styling Dept. The AirFlow still "Haunted' them!! :lol: It wasnt until 1955 and Virgil Exner's team that this changed for the better. K.T. Keller was the main dude then,,replacing Walter Chrysler after his death in 1940,, Keller was VERY conservative although the vehicles were reliable and had many innovative engineering features, they had a stodgy look. Yep, until the 'Forward" look or "Million Dollar" Look if it was a Chrysler! 1955 was a 'Key' year for the Former Chrysler Corp. I'm sure Christer has much material on this subject. In fact the 1955 Chrysler's looked so sweet compared to the 'Boxy' GM cars that GM "scrapped" their designs and went back to the drawing board! But Yeah, the post war Dodges and Ply/Chry. were freaking stodgy beasts that looked like a 'tank' :lol: The AirFlow experiment took many years before Chrysler managment followed the pack and made cars that were lower,sleeker and more aerodynamic. Goggle Chrysler AirFlow. :wink2: The 1955-1957 Chryslers C-300-C's/Dodge D-500's were years ahead of the competition and offered as much as 390 HP in a 392 Hemi and 325 HP in a D-500 Dodge both cars were 2 Door Coupes and usually flat dominated any track they set foot on. :wink:
