Rock Race in Estonia

Postby PaRoDy » 17 Jun 2004 18:03

Coming next month. This is the biggest drag event in Estonia and I sure will be there. I just hope to get the main prize at the campaing they're doing  Have a look at the website http://www.rockrace.ee/start.php?lang=eng

I wish this event was bigger so that more competitors from distant lands could come. Seeing a Challenger racing would be the best

You know. I would love to drive the Chally in mainland Europe.

Let me see. I could drive 10 miles to North Shields. Drive onto the ferry and sail to Gothenburg, Sweden. Then drive to Stockholm (about 250-300 miles?).
Then I could get a ferry to Helsinki, Finland. Then drive to St Petersburg (about 200 miles?) and then from there to this event (about 250 miles?)

So about 750 miles actual driving over several days but two days spent relaxing on board a couple of large ferrys. Mmmm.

It is possible. Just a matter of time and money. Trouble is I never have both at the same time!

Plus! Can you imagine me parking the Chally in St Petersburg overnight and wondering where it had gone the next morning? I can!

I had better just leave this trip to the imagination. :)

You don't need to go to St Petersburg. There are also ships from Helsinki to Tallinn.
Well dreaming is good

OK it's was a week ago but better late than never.

I'm not going to write a long story about it because probably most of you have experienced more than I could write (can't put those feelings into words as you know).

Event was awesome. There was a car show and a decibel dragrace...who has the loudest audio....but at least me and my friend didn't have time for either of them
The main thing for us was drag, drag and drag. There were more than 10,000 people so we didn't want to lose our great "seats" right behind the fence. And 10 hours of standing under the burning Sun (I'm changing skin like a snake) was "a piece of cake".
But seeing those finelookin' and -soundin' V8s made all that suffering even.
The second most emotional race was between two Estonia's best cars/drivers: Lauri Kuriks (10,3) and Taavo-Erkki Vitsut (10,8 ). And the most emotional race was when Lauri (the fastest in Estonia) lost the race against I-don't-know-who :x in the Superfinals...I had tears in my eyes  OK I'm fine...everything is fine.

Those demo runs that Seppo Saapola in his Pro Modified 6,7 sec Olds Cutlass (~2000 hp) and his son Sami with Super Comp (1000+ hp) made were perfect. Most of us down here haven't even dreamed of such show. When these things JUMP from the starting line......yeah you know what I mean.

There was only one major problem. The track was too slippery for 10 seconds and faster cars.

And here are some pictures and videos...
I have to thank all authors and ofcourse Torque Headquarters. And again http://rockrace.ee/start.php?lang=eng

The Valiant in the pic above is mine. It was an awesome event, I came second in my class. The traction on the unprepped concrete wasn't too good, the best 60 ft I could master was in the 1.7's. The weather was very hot, but still could make a new speed record, almost 133 mph and the best ET wasn't too bad either, 10.70. Had to be very careful with the throttle in the first gear; I switched from the 3.23 gears to 3.91's just before the race and I believe that explains the speed increase. Now the engine is in its power range at the traps. Should go to a "real" track next saturday and unless anything breaks I think it will run a new record, hoping for 10.2-10.3's. And maybe 9's, if I get the nitrous solenoid to work.
