I was also going to mention that the nose cone on the film car was in fact a '70s aftermarket part for these cars. Not many were made and there is a guy I know spent a LOT of time and effort finding one for his correct movie clone car.
A Daytona Charger nose is easy by comparison.

if i'm in London that weekend, is a way of go to Santa Pod in public transportation: bus, train...?
is a much long distance from London?

thanks

You would have to take a train from London to Wellingborough and Taxi from there to the track.

Overall it is about a 70-80 mile ( 112-128km ) journey and transport is not cheap.

I could pick you up at Wellingborough but cell phone reception is not very good at the track (miles from anywhere) and I may not get your call.

I have just found out that there is electricity around the pits area. But have heard the rates for it are expensive.

Just going back to what dave was saying about the falcons, My old boss and hid son raced a XY GT in the historic touring car rounds here in Australia and he was forever blowing it up trying to get away from the chargers, they had a 265ci hemi 6 with 3 side draft webbers and I would say to him "Why dont you just put a SB mopar in it and be done with it." He did not like that at all. :D

How the truth hurts sometimes eh. I wonder what the "potential" of the sixes are. I mean what would a cammed, exhaust, jetted carbs,(Webers), valvetrain ect.. I think the cylinder head used canted valves on the 265 Hemi six, similar to production Ford? Clevelands. MoPar Muscle magazine had a great tech article on the engine and it's developement in Australia for that package with Highland Parks blessing. They mentioned in the article that there were 265's running in the 10's with blower or nitrous turbo ect..Pretty cool stuff.

The scoops on those 3 cars looks alot like the scoops and body style on a 71/72 Mach I. Any truth to this?

Probably cheaper to hire a small cheap car or van.

gday guys been away for a couple of days buying new machinery , yes eddie those aussie sixes could blow a factory ford or holden v8 away & quite impressively to i might add although the more performance oriented fords & holdens you did need the six pack not just a std 245 with single barrel carb wich would beat themore sedate family cars quite soundly
& those scoops dave yes falcon took a lot of its styling queues from the mustang wich stands to reason as the mustang originally was designed from a falcon base
also im pretty sure the black coupe in mad max was an xc the 4 door intercepters were xa & xb damn good movie

Dave, you arrange good weather for the Nats, allright?

By the way, is there something of a tech inspection for the cars? And do you need a racing license or just a regular driverslicense?

Right now we're changing some small things to the car which hopefully brings better ET's. According to all kind of mathc it should be faster now then my last 10.6 but you never know. Can't wait to try...

Yes. I booked good weather a few months ago to make sure I got it. :D

The flood waters should have gone down a foot or two by then.

No tech inspection at this event for street legal cars at the very least. Regular drivers licence only for a street legal car. I assume a race licence and tech inspection for race cars but i really don't know.
The Nats Committee or SPR will know.

I can't wait to see it. :D There should be a few fast cars there this year (weather permitting). Including our mate Andy Neal's old Wagon "War Pig" that he got from Famer Ted Evans. Running a twin turbo Hemi that has only had some untuned easy shakedown runs so far in the US before being shipped over here by the new owner. That should run easy 8s and will be street driven.

Plus if Duncan Watts gets the "Texas Big Bird" Superbird finished in time he will be bringing that. But that one is NOT streetable at all! :D

Well neither of those two cars showed this year due to development problems but we all had a good weekend all the same.

Nice to meet you Hans. :D

Photos from the event will follow when I have time.

Had a great time this weekend! Just got back home after a 200miles and a 8hr boat trip so am kind of done for today. But currently copying photo's from the cam etc. so will try to load up some pics. Will have to see which ones my wife has taken pics from.

Was certainly nice to meet you. Had to look for a moment, you looked so much older compared to what you post around here some times

To bad the challenger wasn't really cooperating this weekend making only 2 runs. First run we hadn't enough pressure on the clutch discs which resulted in slippage only except for the launch but the whyole 2nd & 3th were slipping. Took some shims out from the pressure plate which made us have to lengten the pedal rod to be able to adjust the clutch. Only bad thing about this was it ucked up the pedal to box alignment resulting in engagement failure so couldn't get it in gears during the 2nd run. So have to redo the different rods soon but not a real big problem.

My buddy had more problems having a crack in the cylinder head of the 636ci Hemi Roadrunner and a cracked flexplate with the 500ci B1 Cuda although both of them did run decent times with 9.0's and 8.9's.

Will check for photo's later on.

I missed the first run but saw your second run (in with the thread of photos I took) and I could see it was still not shifting.

Should have stuck with a 727 like I suggested all that time ago. :P

Old looking indeed! What with my illness and the fact I am 48 today I am not suprised I guess. :(

Happy birthday Dave!

Didn't catch you there (as always).
It seems there were less cars than usual.
Mostly track cars though, and mostly E- and B-bodies. The fullsize cars were really hiding this time.

The cars look better every year, I remember when many cars looked like rust heaps but could run 10's. Now most look like show cars and do 9's.

The weather was really awesome (aprt from the half-hour downpour on saturday evening and the drizzle all night afterwards). I guess Chris Orthodoxou balancing the mics with his pals really calls for rain every time.

Nice thing the marquee was "no smoking", it was a really pleasant evening.

Yep. Been the LAW since July 1st. No smoking in confined spaces or any workplace, bars or clubs.

I was stood in the cold outside the Marquee tent on Friday night. No-one was singing so i didn't bother. All out Essex mates were off having a party on the campsite near the finish line somewhere.

My wife didn't want to get her designer Stella McCartney Adidas trainers muddy  so we just hung around talking to one or two other freinds until we got so cold we decided to bugger off back to the hotel.

Saturday night we left just as it started to rain slightly. I had a date with a very large T-bone steak back at the Beefeater next door to the Hotel and I didn't want to be late. :D By the time I had eaten all that I was ready for bed.

I am still not 100% well so by Saturday night I was struggling a bit. :(
I decided to go home first thing Sunday morning. But as it happens i felt a bit better on Sunday so we stayed at the track until lunchtime.

We're getting there with the 4-speed. First year with the hemi we ruined everything (flywheel, clutch, pressure plate) as the pilot bushing let go causing the tranny to leak oil into the bellhousing causing the above.

Now we have fixed that problem with a roller bearing instead of the old style pilot bushing. Also the cluth disc itself seems to be the better compromise between street & strip. Only bad thing now is with fixing the pressure on the disc we 'deproved' the linkage lineup underneeth which we will set 110% before next outing. By then the whole combo should start to work again.

On that first run with the throttle on and off in 2nd and partly 3th gear due complete disc slippage I still got 122mph although it was with a 13.1 et  so with the time I've lost in ET I should get the mph up to above the previous best of 128mph when eveything works as it should. So the power is there for triple digit ET's.

If we had a good time? Mah, we had a great time!! We get used to breaking parts anyway so we look at it from the bright side. I got my first little wheelie which will make a nice print for on the wall. Also know it will ran like we want it to if we sort out some minor things.

Hope to be back there next year again! :s003:

Yep, my mate did fall into the prices with something like 'most wanted mopar' which is always nice to win. And of course the girls too...he did like liked the tall one the most as the other was a bit plastic fantastic he felt...
