Just spotted this thread. I own the Audioslave video Vanishing Point Challenger.

The producers for that music video contaced me for a white 70 Challenger. I put them onto Randel (Cometstorm I think was his handle) who ran the VP clone website. He put them onto you.

The mighty white Challenger has seen much action and quite a few changes since then. Did the Edmunds shoot/story/vid(nearly a million hits at this point), met up with Richard Serafin(the VP director) at his home for an interview by a French film crew. Took Richard for a drive around Beverly Hills in the Challenger. He got pretty emotional seeing and driving the car-nice man with tons of insight about the film. The car was also featured at the Panavision studio for the release of VP on BluRay. Much of the original cast/crew/etc were there for the screening, the Q&A afterwards was also a hoot, the car again made the trip out to Goldfield and the other film sites-this time with the crew from Motor Trend. Got an insider tour of the hotel and the car ended up on the cover of the mag.
The car is currently running a 600hp Indy Cylinder Heads 440, a keisler 5-speed(with Pistol Grip, of course), Hotchkiss suspension,etc. The Challenger still looks as it appeared in the movie and runs on polyglass tires too!
It will be the only musclecar in attendance at a Wounded Warriors event next month, surrounded by Ferraris and lambos.
A lot of good times because of that car!

Just a pucker test yesterday.......Had a valve cover gasket fail ,BLOW OUT ,WAS ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD,and it puked oil all over the header,
and it only made it a block before I noticed it, a cloud billowing out of the car

,by the time I got home it was really bad, I jumped out the car and the friggin header had started a fire,yea BBQ ,

dam glad I keep a fire extinguisher in the car cause it saved the car it would have burned the car down for sure.

so just a note to those out there that dont have a fire extinguisher in their car ......get one now ,

this has happened to me before with a steering column /electrical failure with the turn signal ,

and I was ready then ,and will never go with out one I even purchased a bigger one for under the dash so now I will have 2......fair warning to all get a fire extinguisher ASAP-



I found these steel/silicone,reusable gaskets no blow out

Hey I caught it just in the nick of time...dam glad I have the extinguisher , other wise I would have been calling the fire department, and insurance...........

But I got it fixed yesterday and all seems good .just a bit of a wake up call

Here is the culprit, it is very hard and has lost its seal theses were pretty good ,but due to the composition, mostly card board they were due to fail, and these new gaskets were not available 3 years ago

I have a Halon Bottle in my 70 and my 72 will have 2. (HEED DREW"S advice everyone!!!) Nice save Drew, oh and synthetics arent supposed to be flammable, although Ive never tried to light it up. The rubber coated steel shim Moroso's , really are the best, no sealer needed, seals like a vault!

I bought a pair of thick orange silicon (I think) gaskets for mine back in the mid 90s from a vendor at the EuroNats. They didn't have a steel core but they worked amazingly well. Must have removed those valve covers a thousand times and never needed to replace them.

Oh man the prep ,anticipation reminds me of when I was prepping for out ward bound,2 weeks in a car with a small trunk I almost pulled the back seat, but I dont think I need to.

and btw the small puny fire extinguishers are a one shot deal they will give you a quick burst and that is it,

you have to be dead on when you hit the fire ,

now I have a much larger one,and I might do another one somewhere

I kept two rechargeable ABC bottles in my trucks, one under each end of the seat,by the sill. That way I could quickly grab one no matter wjich side of the vehicle I was on. Only had to use one once, on a carb backfire fire.
