What date is the Goldfield stop scheduled again.

The plan so far is to set off from Denver for Goldfield on Tuesday the 29th and hopefully stay overnight. It will be quite late when we arrive I would imagine.

Drew you thinking what I'm thinking? The streets of Goldfield would look so much better with molten, gooey rubber layed down. About 4 strips worth should do it! :V8: Thanks for posting those pics Dave! Great talking to you last night Pat.(We gotta get that movie for Dave)

Yeah Dave! :s024: (Thanks for the idea Dave&Barc I am going to bring a complete set of spare tires&wheels), 4 15" Police wheels with decent rubber. Should 'cover' me and possibly Drew's Challenger but I think he has much bigger wheels than 15". Along with spare parts&Tools any ideas besides spare fuel pump, 60 Amp Alternator, fusible links, spare ignition control modules a couple of Ballast resistors, fan belts, rad hoses, vulcanising tape, spare dizzy...ect both are 440 powered so parts can interchange.

Yeah, we should be fine Drew. I'll have a new Battery, 20W-50 Amsoil Synthetic oil, their EaO Oil filter, fresh Coolant, my B.F. Goodrich tires only have few hundred miles on them, check the lug nuts for proper torque, belts, hoses, ect are all fairly new, but I will bring new parts for all this, I think you have manual steering like me right so there one less belt to worry about.. I'll also bring 3--- 5 gallon Fuel cans for 15 Gallons of 94 Octane because there arent a lot of gas stations in the Nevada Desert and we can use those as a backup. No freaking Snake charmers or Hippies needed,LOL, Hell, I might even get a wild hair up the poop shoot and buy a 55 Gal. Drum of VP 100 Red,(100 Octane Unleaded),,,10 Gallons of distilled water at Least maybe more. Both for the tow vehicles, Challengers, and us. You dont want to be in that area without potable water. The water stations in the middle of the desert are NOT for Human consumption, at least when I blasted through there in the early 1980's thats the way it was. Maybe it's different these days dont know? And of course a few sets,(6 should be enough, for 48 plugs of NGK-FR-5 --What cylinder head do you use Drew? Whats your cam specs at .050 INTAKE LIFT? Dual plane intake with Big Holley right, Comp ratio around 10:1 right? if it's what I think then the FR-5's should be the right heat range for you too. Any Colder a plug like FR-7's and they foul out in about 100 miles for me)But we'll talk more about this as time progresses towards the departure date. Dave got me thinking,(As usual,,,, Thanks Dave)  Oh and I almost forgot, I am gonna take my car to the shop and check the Air Fuel Ratio on my trusty LM-1 meter, it should be the same but I want to make sure. The shaker is held on with so many fasteners accessing the carb mixture screws can be a pain sometimes, so I'll set it up for 12.9-13.1 AF ratio, it runs very well at this mix and has absolutely no hesitation, and makes gobs of "TYRE MELTING torque,(yeah Yeah WE know Dave) Damn I cant wait!! Seriously, if there arent any Doughnut chasers nearby in Goldfield at the radio staion, Super souls CRIB,the street is gonna experience some MoPar violence.ARGGHHH  :s006:

Drew, do you have 'clocked collectors"? Whats your lowest point ground clearance? Mines exactly 3 1/2" at the lowest point. Also do you have a skid plate under the front center of the K? (Clocked Collectors means the apex is towards the sides and top, the bottom is just the radius, gives a 1/4" or so more clearance.

Hopefully the next time I post on here will be with my new Car Trailer, our 'home' for a few days this fall too! Pick it up Mon. Morn. in Bainbridge Ind.7k bucks and change, plus accessories like the brake control box, winch, tie downs, storage containers, blow up doll, chains, trailer parts bearings, ect,, My neighbor is even letting me keep it at his farm down the road a mile or two, and we agreed he could use it as he wishes in lieu of storage fees. This was very kind of him.So I am truley 'committed' now. Also I got the proper insurance,, all this stuff has been legally set in motion with my Bankers and my Agent. No turning back now!!!

So Eddie and Drew's Challengers are gonna be on trailers or Drew, are you driving that black beast? Just checking any possible tow rigs on the trip.

Eddie I have the "Unclocked" collectors and the manufacturers set the bolt at the lowest of bottom of coarse. It's well ground though and clearance is improving on each hard drive.

Here's the brake controller I am thinkingabout buying after I get the trailer home. What do you guys think? I know nothing about this stuff but have learned some from Barc and Pat. I dont think the timed units are any good preferring the inertia units for more consistent braking which is proportional to the trucks braking force when applied. So what do you think? Is this one any good or junk?

Yeah, not a lot of room under there Jon. I think Drew is bringing his rig in case of breakdown, rain, nightime or lack of funds for fuel ect,, I wouldnt want to rely on AAA

I think that is a good unit, Eddie. Way more fancy than, what I got in the old Ford. These brake controler's are absolutely manditory, whenever you are towing anything of size. Now, I feel better knowing you'll have one.

Eddie, just looked at your link. Are you going to get the second tow vehicle special? Then both of your trucks could be wired up.
The Prodigy has a good reputation but, like any inertia controller, watch out in stop and go or city traffic. Without the vehicle's inertia you have less trailer braking power. Just think ahead a little bit when driving slow and you should be golden
FWIW, a Prodigy is what I'd probably get if I was in the market for a controller.

Yes, for only 14.95 extra we can have both Drew's and my rigs hooked up or swapped if needed. After reading a little bit and thinking in my head, the brake controllers are mandatory unless you want to see the trailer leading the way! NOT  (Thanks for that description Pat) Thanks for advice Barc, I'll order a unit plus the extra cable for Drew's truck if needed. Here's the site that along with the advice , I used to make my decision on the Controller. I thought with a pendulum style proportionng device it would allow the braking system to operate with a 'proportional pressure application",(meaning they are the same force regardless of speed), so I dont understand why the stop&go would be any different Barc. maybe you can explain that to me. Thanks http://www.etrailer.com/faq_brakecontroller.aspx

Do you guys have a route after reaching Goldfield? I was looking at the map and crossing the Sierras through Yosemite would be cool. There are several other small passes also. The other option would seem to be back up to Reno then 80 to S.F. Might take about the same time.

If that is an option my place is straight down HWY 41 to Paso Robles. Then you could head up HWY 1 along the Bug Sur coast to S.F. Just a thought. :)

Jon
Isn't the eastern entrance to Yosemite sometimes closed by then? IIRC that's about when they start getting enough snow to close the pass into the park. That's how I awlays used to enter the park when my brother lived in Reno .
If it is open then it's a beautiful drive. I love the lakes area.
Eddie, Dave et al, if you guys hit Yosemite, don't go during the weekend! Go during the week, many less people. Yosemite actually has traffic jams :hmmm: on nice weekends. But it's worth going to see. To me it's one of the most beautiful spots on Earth.

Eddie, they actually explaiend it as well as I can. You've chosen wisely.
I've been to etrailer before to pick up some trailer supplies. It's about a 45 min drive and cheaper for me to pick up than ship if I drive the Toyota. They're just west of St Louis rigth next door to the GM plant in Wentzville MO

I had to put it off till next Mon. the 9th of Feb. simply too much snow to park it here. My neighbor has a small farm around the corner from me and he is letting me keep it there but it's also the same snowy conditions. It's going to warm up to the 50's this weekend, Mon. should be much better. I have the Check from the Bank, it's mine!! I also ordered the Prodigy Electronic Inertia Brake Controller and adaptor lead. It just clicks in, and goes. You, Bob & I will be able to drive it safely now Dave, especially in the Colo. mountain passes.

Thanks Drew, I cant wait to get it here to start working on it. I want to install a mounted winch plate at the forward floor center,(front of the trailer inside), that way we can simply attach the tow straps around the K-Member and pull it up easy as you please. I'm thinking a 4500lb. unit should do it. Harbor freight has Chicago Pnuematic brands for about 200.00 bucks. I am in welding and can weld up a plate for it to mount to the floor then to the frame of the trailer itself.
