Radiator Overflow Bottle & Mounting Bracket

Postby Trep01 » 29 Jul 2012 1:36

Greetings....I've been considering adding a coolant overflow bottle to my '73. I've been losing coolant through the overflow so I thought it would be a good investment. Year One has the correct bottle and mounting bracket but I'm not sure where exactly the mounting bracket attaches to. I know the bottle mounts between the radiator and battery but does anyone know where, exactly? Actually, a close up picture of the where the bottle/bracket actually mounts would be great. I'd hate to spend $200 and then find out it won't work. It's the original radiator and its a 340.

Thank you.

This is the only picture I have of the overflow bottel. I thought the mounting bracket bolted to the rad support using the radiator fasteners. Look around at some other companies. You should be able to get it a lot cheaper through another company.

Looking for a coolant overflow for my 72, are they the same and mounted the same as the 73-74? In researching, it looks like the 72 is "different".

Any pictures of a 1972 coolant overflow bottle installed anyone?

Thanks!

The overflow bottle was only available in 74. No other years had one. The repro bottles are listed as 73 and 74 but that's not correct. You should be able to mount it to any year though.

Excellent. Thanks,

Are you driving yours yet? I saw it fired up, and sounded great.

Does the bracket actually bolt to the studs on the radiator, or to the core support? The last challenger picture in the "cuda-challenger.com" link sort of shows it, but I can't quite tell.

My radiator is from a C-Body, 26 inch. Not sure the bracket will mount to this.

Thanks,

I've been reading about the overflow bottle and think I might want to add one to my 1970, even though they didn't have one.
I know there is a kit with the side bracket for the radiator, but I've also seen a smaller stainless one that mounts horizontally under the battery tray. Has anyone tried this type? It should work the same as a vertically mounted unit, right?

Overflow bottles all work the same : they have an input at the bottom and an overflow exit at the top (some have both at the botton, with an inner tube going to the top for the exit).
That way, when the system cools down, the radiator sucks the coolant back from the overflow tank.

So the overflow bottle will work vertically or horizontally?

A friend of mine has this exact model, you must make sure you know which tube is the input and which is the output (the one witht he inner tube goint to the top), or it will be totally useless...
