Radiator and fan shroud question

Postby The Toy Peddler » 23 Dec 2009 13:07

I am in the process of putting my 70 chally back together. The guy I got this from purchased a new aluminum 28" radiator for it. There is no fan shroud. I am wanting advice. Should I go with the 28" radiator and 18" fan and try to find a shroud and rad support to fit, or should I just get another one that will fit better such as a 26" and a stock shroud? This does have a 440 magnum that will be putting out about 500HP.
I will have to make a decision in the next couple weeks if I am to get this on schedule...........did I just say that? NOTHING about this is on schedule! (Looking for Mar.1)

I would be tempted to fit the 28" if it fits and not worry about the shroud.
But it depends how it looks in the car really.

I assume you have a 26" opening in the rad support yes?

It looks to be a 26" opening. I think with slight mods this will work fine. I will find a shroud for it though. Luckily this isn't going to be a "show" car so I will have no problem with it not being "correct".

Be aware that all of the NEW fan shrouds that are sold will not last very long. They are NOT injection molded pieces and will warp badly when subjected to engine heat. I have heard on more than one occation where the shroud warped and came into contact with the fan blades. Try and find an origonal shroud if at all possible.
