340 4Barrel Upper Rad Hose

Postby DanaProsky » 07 Aug 2008 22:01

I am trying to get a correct upper rad hose for my 71 340 4BBL. Is the hose for a 70 340 6 pack the same as my car. Year One lists one for the 340 6 pack motor, but not the 4 barrel motor, I'm thinking its the same hose, but I'm not sure.

The T/A hose is a different part number.

I would guess if you do not have air conditioning it would still fit as long as the radiator inlet is on the drivers side. My worry would be that a air con pump might be in the way?

Thanks Dave, I do not have air conditioning, the Year One catalog is very vague as far as which hose number fits which engine, etc. As a matter of fact, the online catalog shows more hoses than the paper catalog. I am trying to get a "correct" hose for my car. I called their "tech line" but was on hold for 45 minutes, so I gave up. The 340 6 pak and 4 bbl engines are similar, but the intake manifolds being different could mean 2 different upper hoses.

The water necks (and their position) are the same. But the hose probably has to bend forward a bit to avoid the front carb.
I think if you dont have air con it would fit. But it would not be the "correct" hose.

Actually I think it is the shaker hood that makes the biggest difference.

PN 1881806 is the top hose you need.

PN 3462118 is for shaker hoods and the T/A I think?

Thanks again Dave, When I say "correct" hose, I mean a hose with the pentastar logo and part number, etc. It may not even be available at this time. I just got my correct heater hoses with logos, etc, I am trying to do the car right.

Here are the top hose part numbers in the 70-71 parts manual.

All the LA blocks have the same water pump and radiators. The difference being fresh air induction (shaker and T/A) and max cool radiator.

Looks like number 3462118 is the one I need for my Shaker 340, I wonder what the chance of finding a NOS hose is. Thanks Dave.

You have a shaker! I think that is the one Year One list as for the Six pack. So that one is the one you need.

Year One lists a SR213 for 70-71 340 AARs & T/As and the factory number stamped on the hose is 3462193. If I am reading things right, that number is the one for a 70, and 71 has a different number, 3462118. Year One doesnt even mention a difference between a Shaker car and a non-Shaker car. I would assume the fit on some of their hoses is not the best.

The Year One item will fit with your Shaker. It fitted the 1970 model so it will fit yours I am sure.

I have a 340 in my '70. I got what Year One listed as the "correct" upper hose for my car, and it fit fine. Then I added a repo Shaker set-up. The upper hose still fits fine and there are no interference issues. Since the car isn't 100% OE anymore, it doesn't bother me in the least that the small number printed on the hose isn't correct anymore.....
