Radiator part number

I got a part number for a radiator: 1250374. It has been in a Challenger together with a shroud and I'm wondering if it's a "correct" part. What year etc. Can't seem to find any information and now I'm starting to wonder if I got the right part number...anyone who knows their numbers?

The number you want is on the very top of the radiator.

All 1970 models start 29989**
All 1971 models start 344****
All 1972 models start 35746**
All 1973 models start 36739**
All 1974 models start 36929**

I can give you the missing digits if you supply the following information.

What year model do you have?

What size engine?

What carb (i.e. 2bbl, 4bbl, 3x2bbl or 2x4bbl)

What transmission?

Standard, AC or Max Cool?

This information is from Paul Herd's old book "Challenger and Barracuda Restoration Guide" which is known to have some mistakes here and there but on the whole is pretty good.

Well I'm thinking of switching my radiator who comes from a 68 Hemicharger I think (#2898048) for an E-body one. I don't really care about numbers and such but I had to move the radiator I have now a little bit to the passengers side of the car and raise it a bit too so the fan didn't get too close to the shroud. Since I had to raise it the hood touches the radiator cap and I have to be very gentle when I close it.

Anyway, I found this one and the owner said that number (#1250374) which I thought was really strange cos I never saw a part starting with number 1 before. After some research it seems that those parts were built in the '50s so I guess I have to ask him if there's another number on it. He didn't know the size of it and I only have this picture of it. It LOOKS like an E-body radiator to me and if it fits better than the one I have now I don't care where it's coming from. I just want it to cool down my engine, right...

I agree it does look like the right one.

FYI, the guy who had it (another buyer outbid me) doublechecked and verified it is an aftermarket one. No wonder the numbers were a little strange...

That 68 Hemi B-body radiator should fetch a pretty good price on eBay.

Yeah, I know. I've seen one go for $810. But I will try out another one that I have in the garage now, #2998974 (supposedly for a 1970, 340 engine, maybe correct for a 340 six-pack too, I don't know? It came from a AAR Cuda I think).

I put in an ad to see if someone was willing to trade but I want some money in between though, don't know how much I should ask for, what do you guys think would be reasonable? The B-body hemi radiator that I have also has a shroud (year one) and the one I'm getting from him, well already have doesn't so that's $100 extra right there. They look to be in the same condition, I just have to check it out so it doesn't leak. Should I ask for $200 inbetween? The guy has a '69 hemicharger, a '70 Charger plus a '71 Cuda so I think he has the cash...

Hemi parts are going up in price all the time. I would ask for more than you want. Then you could let him talk you down a bit.

I was about to same thing. At least $300 in between if you want to make a good deal. In some cases money is not the only concern if you ask me. If he gets happy and you gets happy, then everything is fine, right?

1970 e-body 318" with air-conditioning

Christer is probably mixing the last two digits up?

The 318 part number ends 947. The 340 number ends 974. But he is correct that it was the most common 340 radiator. Nothing special about the T/A version.

The only other 340 radiator in 1970 was the MAX cool radiator which ended 949. That one was also used on 318s.

Well, I am quite sure that Dave is NOT guessing, so here is the answer:

I had to get a #2998-056 26" radiator and it wasn't cheap either. There is a place that sells date coded exact reproduction Chrysler Radiators with the correct numbers and date codes. Glen Ray Radiators Inc. 1966-1972 ABE bodies Chrysler licensed and authentic, cost 1195.00, date coding, 60.00 extra. 800-537-3775

Sold for $600. Does this mean that all of the 340" radiators are worth that much?
It only means that one guy at one time thought it was worth that much!
(Yes, I am a bit surprised that it sold for that much.)

I had a radiator that belonged to my 71 with the number 3443959 and another number of 18398. The frame shop that had my car this week took the radiator out to work on the core support and somebody stole it. The shop manager said he would replace it. Can anyone tell me how I can tell if this was the original radiator that came with the car. 71 383 4bbl. What would be it be worth? TD
