AC System Recharge Capacity

Postby cv70chall » 24 Nov 2014 21:15

I recently replaced my evaporator core (Thanks Todd!) and had the system vacuumed and recharged, but my AC guy stopped at about 220 on his gauge because he was unsure of how much R134 the system could handle. About 1lb/3oz has been induced but the system isn't getting colder than 60 degrees.
What is the limit of the system?
Keep in mind- everything is original except the compressor (I have replaced the OEM with a Sanden model).

Thanks-

You need to find the Sanden Compressor spec for that compressor's refrigerant capacity. Vintage Air can assist you in that regard. If it's a conversion which I assume it is,,then you want 70% to 80%,(no more than that), of what it would be with R-12. Keep an eye on the high side while charging,,add a little at a time,,,give it time to do it's work,,airflow across the condenser is vital,,so taking it for a test drive is always better than sitting and idling. Good Luck
