A few years ago I bought a completely number matching '70 challenger. In fender-tag has the code A93, so according to the info of this site it should be a deputy. The strange thing about my car, is that I have bucket seats, and adjustable rear quarter windows. the bucket seats are even named on the fender tag. It is a californian car with a 318 and airco. Is it possible that I bought an exclusive deputy, or is the code for the deputy not A93???

Bucket seats are the norm for this car. But they were the same as in the lower priced Barracuda and not normal Challenger bucket seats. Interior color could be black or white only.
The rear quarter windows were only fixed in place by a bolt and the deletion of the winder handels. It is possible someone fixed this so they opened.

Thanks for the information Dave. So it is in fact a deputy. Have you got any numbers of deputy's manufactured? The buckets have option code C55. I know they are bucket seats, but I don't know what kind. The interior color is indeed black. Everything inside is black, except for the woodgrain panels in the doors and on the center console, code C16.

On the fender tag, to the left of '000' there is a four digit code that tells you about the seat type/price class/material/colour. I may have some production numbers at home that are not yet on my web site. I will have a look tonight.

The code on my tag is: L6X9 as far as I can tell it means that the interior is black, but nothing more. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me more

The first letter is the grade of trim.
'L' is unusual for a Challenger and possibly means 'Low'. but if you check out your seat pattern (if it is original) with the patterns in something like the Year One catalog you will see it is the same as the cheaper Barracuda.
The next digit '6' means it is an all-vinyl seat (no leather or cloth inserts).
The last pair of digits are the color code. 'X9' is black.
I just looked up the production numbers I have and indeed I only have the numbers for the 383 engined Deputy of which there were only 6 made in 1970 and 16 in 1971.

thanks dave. to bad i don't have the original seats, so i can't check the seat pattern. The "L" indeed means "low", i found that out allready, but thanks anyway. Have you got any idea what the number "26" means that is placed to the left of the code EN1? I've seen it on a lot of fender tags. About the seats, when i bought the car the seats were missing, and the rear bench was from a '74 challenger. fortunatly I found buckets, but they're from a '73 car. I have them recovered, probalbly in the wrong pattern i guess. well they look new anyway, so i'll live with that

My little red book tells that L6X9 is Black/White. L6XW and H6X9 are black codes according to the same book.

X9 is the bit that means black. XW is white. That Red Book is not very good.

Is there anybody who wants to buy my red book? It is quite cheap at the moment
I do not know the history about the name 'Deputy'. Is there anybody who can give me a clue?

Christer,
I believe the car was called the Deputy because it played on the marketing campaign that Dodge was using with the sheriff. Since the A93 coupe was a lesser priced version of the regular Challenger and the R/T, they used the name Deputy since it's a lesser version of a sheriff.
But I have no documentation to back that up.
