what is on an La fender tag

Postby spchallenger340 » 19 Feb 2011 21:43

what I would like to know ? here is what my fender tag reads E55 D32 JH23 HOE 110573 FJ5 H6X9 000 V1X A62 A66 C16 C55 G33 H51 J45 M21 N41 N42 N85 N95 R22 V1X V21 V9X Y14 26 END. What I don't understand is the car still has these other options, J41 J55 M85 J25 J54 with call out emblems 340 Four Barrel wouldn't these codes be on the fender tag too? Also looking for a close build date to my car. Fender tag rusted can't tell what the build date reads A06 -r- A08 -r- ? One last ? friend of my has car with an A63 code on fender tag and only has vinyl roof no badges no over head console vinyl bucket seats why? His fender tag reads E55 D32 JH23 HOE 109 TX9 H6X9 000 V1X A01 A02 A63 A66 C16 C55 G31 G33 J25 J45 M21 M25 M31 N41 N42 N95 R11 V1X V9W 26 END. See some of his options are on his fender tag that are not on my and some of my are not on his.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help please!

Do you have photos of both tags? Some of that data is missing & out of order? One code listed is not possible also. Photos would (may?) help us figure out what is what?

A63 is a molding package, it did come on SE models standard, but it was available on most other 1970 Challengers also. To be a SE the VIN would have 29 in it, not 23.

Not all cars have the same codes & not all of the codes are listed on the fender tags.

I used to know a lot of this stuff off the top of my head but have forgotten it all since my brain injury.

I can't even remember what i used for reference when I needed it?
I must have the codes listed somewhere. :?

All I remember about LA tags is that they are mostly the same as the Hamtramck tags except that you usually got the roof code added twice. Once at the start of line three above the body colour code (tags are read from the bottom line up) and once again on the top line. V1X in this example.

In either case you never got all the broadcast sheet codes on the fender tag. You just got the main options on the tag.

Gotta love a clear photo. The A04 shown was typed as A02 was not possible in that position.

Some codes at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dea ... e-01.shtml

More at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dea ... d-04.shtml

Neither one is all inclusive, but they will get you started.

Sorry about your brain injury Dave, But I was smart enough to know the answer to my question about the data on the fender tag, I just wanted to know if a car had a 340 a66 performance package would the fender tag list N85 or J25 when it had A62, or the performance hood with the A66 code, and finale look at the fender tag with A63 on it in the picture yet the Vin is Jh23 what gives. Sorry I ask you Dave I just though you were smart enough to answer my question. I was born in Lancaster England 56 Years ago and just thought I could get an answer for a former brit, cheeriooooo :s002: :s002: :s002: :s002:

Alaskan TA, thanks for the information, look at the web page.So looking at the option codes then an A63 on the fender tag is on there because of the options M25 and M31 on the fender tag, not because it is an SE Special Edition order. At least that is how I'm reading it. Now that I have someone that could help me land the space shuttle, would a car with an A66 and A62 on the f/tag still list J25 and N85 on the tag.It seems that cars built in LA wouldn't but car built back east did , THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP :s017:

As Barry already mentioned, the ONLY thing that makes a car a SE version is "29" rather than "23". Not the option codes which - were optional.

I'm glad your're smart mate because obviously, like you say, I'm not. :|

What I am confused about is that you HAVE the tag and you are asking if other codes should be on it.
Well you have the tag......if the codes are not on it that answers your question dosn't it? Or am I missing something again? :?

There are lots of examples of tags in this section. It might interest you to have a trawl though them for examples of what you are looking for.

Sorry mate, I didn't mean it in a bad way, come on you were smart enough to own the best car chrysler evey made the 1970 DODGE CHALLENGER . Hell I was smart enough to keep my baby since 71. I do love all mopars ! And if I could go back in time to pick a car out, I'd have a blooming had time to pick between a 1970 CUDA or CHALLENGER. My cousins form England came over to visit took them for a ride, and blime they were Mopar fans, had some stories to take back to Norwich chers! :D P.S We do have the same great taste in color HEMI ORANGE

You got a lovely car there. No question about it. :s017:

I do not mean to be picky or anything, but if the two front spoilers would switch place then you would have them as Mother Mopar once wanted (the straight edge on the outer side of car and the rounded edge pointing to the middle of car). This has been discussed before. I think I am correct because have got a pic to proof it.

Yes they are the wrong way around but remember the T/As were delivered with the front spoilers in the trunk for the dealer to fit. So sometimes the dealerships got it wrong too. So that makes them "correct" on a original T/A if it can be proved they came that way.

Yes but I am sure they should be \______I I______/.

But like I said. You see them both ways and sometimes the dealers did them your way.

Another question for you Dave or Alaskan who can take a rusty fender tag and make a dead on repop, that is exactly like the original that if either one of you had them in your hands you couldn't tell the difference. Please don't tell me it's Galen, he would be the last person on earth that I would use, even if he did it for free! Thanks Dave -r- Alaskan or Chester,if you can tell my chin spoilers have been mounted wrong you sure the hell could tell if the stamps are correct or not

I am dead against "reproducing" tags or other important documents to do with the car. It is wide open to abuse and we have seen plenty of fake tags on here over the years. Some of them were even made rusty to look original.

And yes G.G. was your man for doing that. And I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

Your best bet is to treat the rust and preserve the tag to prevent it from getting any worse.

Thanks for observation, S/S cragars have been my favorite seen I put them on in the 70s. My first set were 15 x 7 reverse on the front with 15 x 8 reverse on the back, but a hated the balance problem, because they were un-lug. But two years ago Jegs parts sold me a new set of 17 x 8 fr 17 x 9 re and they are a direct bolt on, no un -lug ! No more vibrations in the front end, the only thing that upset me was I had to change my left hand studs to right hand because as you would know it they only make right had lug nuts go figure! As for the tires that took awhile to figure out to get the right size to fit with out rubbing , perfect fit was 255/40 ZR 17 fr and 275/40 ZR 17 re, I ordered a set of 285/40 ZR 17 , they were one mean looking set of tires for the rear but they won't clear the leaf springs wideeeee , And the best price to buy these Good Year tires was Wal-mart $180.00 EA FR / $209.00 EA RE, LOVE THEM :P and they don't stick out past the fenders and you would love the way they would corner on those British Coast line roads

Yes I think 17-inchers look good on these E-body cars in particular if the car is lowered slightly.
It is when they are bigger than that I think they start to look silly on these cars.
