Wow!

This is the earliest date I have seen on a WSS from Hamtramck so far, the next one I know of is ten days later, and it is a 318 car. Do you have the full VIN or any other information on it?

Yeah I have a lot of details and photos sent by the owner. I blanked the VIN on the tag in case the owner objected. I will ask him if it is OK to print the details here or pass them on to you Barry.

How many Hamtramck WSS cars do you know of now Barry?

Right now, I know of two 318 cars, and I have partial codes for one /6 car from Hamtramck. They are all rather late in the production year so far, June / July. This is the 1st WSS from there that I have heard of so far.

I hope the owner restores it, it is a real oddity.

He has decided to restore it and is currently sourcing a new roof for it.

These numbers were taken off the front of the block just under the head:
FW340 P32100402 (This is the right area for the numbers, correct?)
The casting date is 11/17/69.

Velozo,
If you are looking for the VIN pad, it is on the passenger side of the block, down near the oil pan rail. The pad is about 3/4" tall and about 3" long. It should have the last 8 digits of the VIN on it.

Every 340 engine that I have seen so far for use in a 1970 Hamtramck car was assembled at the Windsor plant too.

If you have not done so, please check inside the bucket seat backs for more broadcast sheets, there may be one in either or both sides. Please let me know what you find, as sheets do not always match the car they are found in. I have not seen a copy of a broadcast sheet for a WSS built at Hamtramck yet, so I would love to have a copy if possible. :-)

Alaskan_TA, I have the broadcast sheet for the car that I took out of the back seat. Dave mentioned there may be an additional build sheet in the seat backs, but I haven't had a chance to look, yet. Are you interested in checking out a copy of the one I found?

Hello Dean,
Yes, I would love to check out a copy of the sheet you found. There can be as many as five broadcast sheets in any given car though, so I do encourage you to check the other areas just in case. You may get lucky and find more, or it is is also quite possible that you would find one for a different car. I do what I can to get them back to the cars they were intended for, but it is a "needle in a haystack" type search. I have been able to do it every once in a while though. :-)

I've been housesitting for a friend who has no internet access. I still have yet to send you the broadcast sheets. Yeah, I found another sheet in the passenger seat back. After looking at it closer, I noticed they are the same sheet. Anyway, I'll scan them and get those mailed off to you, so you can check them out.

Hi Dean,
Yup, I sure did, thanks! Very cool car. Take a close look at both sheets, while they are for the same car, they were printed on different machines, but at the same time. Details like this help us "numbers geeks" try to figure out how things ran at the plant.

Take a close look at the "3s" on each sheet, the one from the back seat has flat top threes, while the sheet from the bucket seat has round top threes. The print time codes at the end of line 5 are identical though, 07 87 would be the 87th sheet printed during the seventh hour of the day.

Very unusual car, and no radio to boot! That is odd with all the "extras!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, my PC died about a month ago and I had to buy a new one, so I have not been able to get online at all. If you have any questions about the car I will answer them if I can.

Yup, it is the fourth WSS that I have seen from Hamtramck so far. This makes the third 318 car known.

I believe that any V8 Challenger got the 26 inch radiator when AC was ordered, but I can not find any documentation to back that up. Does anyone know for sure?

My 1971 318 AC Challenger has the 26 incher as well.

That was an interesting article. I was a little surprised a 318 car got a write up. Where that car was found in El Monte, CA is only about 30 miles from here. Fontana is just up the road from El Monte, and is home of California Speedway. There are still a ton of good cars to be found in the SoCal area. Just in this small town of Gardena, CA where I grew up, I know of two TA Challengers, one AAR Cuda that were around Gardena High school in the late 70's and early 80s, not ot mention a host of other rare musclecars. There were also quite a handful of '69 and '70 Z28s around here. These were all legit cars, too. These cars were all owned by 2nd and 3rd generation Japanese-American guys like me who populate a large part of this area. There was also a girl who drove around a '69 GTX 4-speed car! There were a lot more that I don't know about. I just wondered what happened to some of these cars. The buzz of fast musclecars was definitely alive here in the South Bay Los Angeles area surrounding Gardena. Many people don't know, but we are the home to many older generation(famous name) speed parts manufacturers and Agajanian's Ascot Park Raceway which fed the need to go fast.

I am glad you liked the article. The car got some ink because they are not supposed to exist. At the time it was written I only knew of one other one which was also a 318 car. How amny more are out there? Only time will tell........

Mentioning Gardena and Agajanian reminds me of the original "Gone in Sixty Seconds" movie.

What stripe code is V6T . brain fart right now.
This has been a very eye opening posting.You never know what you might find out here. Even the factory shipping reports for 1970 do not show WSS with the E55-340,they do how ever show 318-383 .

I am going to copy the vin's for my own records,,, Very kool stuff.

I love to hear about and learn more about strangly optioned cars..

How about 71 s with the formal roof treatment. ????

I assume you meant the V9T stripe? It is the bumble bee stripe in Dark Tan Metallic. ( FT6 )

I know of a Plum Crazy Challenger R/T coded for the same color stripe. Very odd and very cool. :nod:
