Check this TAG: 1971 340 4-spd Challenger SHAKER (non R/T)!

This car is for sale on Ebay. It's unusual. A real non R/T 340 4spd SHAKER car - GF3 green with a green sport stripe (It is currently painted in the wrong color green)! What I am wondering is what differences would there be between a JH23H1 car (optioned as this one has been) and a JS23H1 car? Besides the fact that it wouldn't say "R/T" on the side stripe? Was this a cheaper way to get all the R/T goodies without actually having an R/T? Would the JH car be missing some goodies?

I looked at this car on ebay, today. Super rare, neat car. With all the option's, it seems like a regular R/T would have been cheaper. I think it was a special order. Barry Washington probably knows a lot more, on this.

Just had a look at that car, very nice! Very rare, its got the cloth inserts and also the carpet trim on bottoms of door panels. I thought only the 70 SE had that. Also has the full chrome wrap around nose trim. Lucky guy (or gal) who buys it.

The 1970 SE had the "Moulding Group" package as standard but it was available at extra cost on any other model. Code A63 in 1970.

I think it was A46 in 1971 but would have to check.

Ah, i see. yes the SE would have had a lot of that stuff as standard, but was available as an option on other cars. I also noticed that car had what looks like a factory rear window louvre? And in good shape. It would be a highly collectable car i think.

How did you order the SE interior? I can't remember. :? The door cards must have come with one of the trim packages.

As far as the carpeted door panels go, they came on any 1970 or 1971 Challenger model automatically if the leather or cloth seats were ordered, they are not a "SE only" item.

You also got rear seat ashtrays. ;-)

I wouldn´t call the buy-it-now price US $32,500.00 a bargain, but isn´t that at least on the cheap side considering what you get? (It is just a feeling I have got. I do not follow the market.)

that is alot of green for a green non r/t car but just the same it is a pretty rare car to say the least ,it just is sooooo GREEN :s024:

Very nice! :thumbsup: The shaker/hood seal looks 'funny'. Although I cant tell for sure,,the bellcrank also looks 'funny'.

With the rust that is showing underneith the tag, I'd be very afraid of that car being a perfumed pig. :worry:

Ha ha, you may be right there! Might probably be a pretty lamb in mutton's clothing. The buyer might have to spend another $32 grand on a resto. Then again, he might be lucky. If i had to have green, I prefer that colour to the one my 71 is, the Dark Olive metallic with tan vinyl roof, oooh.

That's amazing you have seen another one like this - there must have only been a handful like that.

As for the door trim - that solves that question i had

Well I think it is a real ugly pig. :lol:

Too much green and to many bolt-ons spoiling the look.

I have to agree. I think it probably looked pretty slick in it's original incarnation however (Proper Medium Green Metallic with Green stripes - no spoilers, no louvres).

Nah, i disagree - i think it looks great. Not so sure on the rear louvre, but all the other bolt-on are all factory. Its got the correct 71 rear Gull wing, and the front spoilers. The black stripes look good against the bright green and the wheels look great and the car is nice and low.

Definitely don't like green interior though but that's the period - ya gotta love it for that. Plus it has a highly optioned interior, steering wheel , inserts etc.

I'd love to own that green baby

I accually like the look of the car a lot. There are only two things that I don't like about it. The first one in the rust under the fender tag. The second is the wide fender/hood trim. I've never liked the look of that.

As far as the interior color goes...When I go to shows...I look for odd combinations. It's more fun (in my opinion) to look at those cars than it is to see row after row of cars with black interiors. I accually like the grean. On another website a guy just sold his 70 HEMI Cuda. It was orange with brown interior. I think it looked awsome. I also remember seeing a green Road Runner with brown interior at the Mopar Nationals a few years back. I had never seen a combination like that before. I just stared at it for quite awile. There were also two 71 Cuda's at the Nats that were mirrors of each other. One was black with white billboards and blue interior. The other was white with black billboards and blue interior. They were both parked next to each other in the show field. I like looking at the odd stuff.

that's if you've been eating your vegies, if it was pizza...now that would add some colour to the inserts.

Seriously though, all dashes should be black i reckon, black goes with any colour and doesn't look so cartoon-ish as colour coded ones.

AMAZING! Now the other similar Challenger is for sale on ebay too!

Both cars share the following:

Bucket Green Vinyl interior (one with cloth inserts)

There are differences - but the similarities are amazing.

Yeah my grandfather had a 64 Catalina wagon with green interior when I was a little kid and do remember hurling on it. I wasn't the color just the mountain roads though. :s008: :lol: That was a shade of the time for sure. :nod:

thats utterly incredible. Think how many would have been made like that, and to think they are both still alive with that same colour and both up for sale at the same time.

Makes you wonder if it was a kit put together for dealers or somthing like that. I wonder if Galen Govier would have a number on their production?

The seller has included the broadcast sheet as well as a report on the car. Interesting to see that he has specified the options a s a percenatge of original JH23 production for that year. The 340 4 speed with performance axle package 3.91 SureGrip option was only 0.1% and the Rallye dash cluster with shaker hood was 0.4%. The shaker hood was Organosol black - i have never seen that- all the shaker hoods i have seen were body colour. Very interesting. Would have been interesting to see what it would have gone for a year or so ago when the Mopar Mad boom was in full swing.

That's what I was thinking too. Maybe a certain dealer was having a promotion and ordered a few cars exactly alike.
