How can you tell if the car was having sunroof from factory? Is there some code for that on the Vin?

In the VIN? No.

On the fender tag - sometimes.

On the broadcast sheet - always.

But depending on the model year, you need to know what to look for, so....

Post your numbers & we can take a look for you.

Why i am asking is, that i can see that the roof has not been covered always. I suspect that my car had a sunroof before, but i would like to know if this was original from factory, or aftermarket "sky port"

I do not have the broadcast sheet.

These are the numbers on the "fender tag"

V6X 26 EN2

M21 M25 N41 N42 N85
G37 J52 J54 L25 L31 M08
V1X I A57 B41 C16 C56
FE5 A6X9 000 312 E15338
E55 D34 JH23 H3B 386832

(What does "I" stand for? = "Unknown"?)

Got a small plate that says, Automontage Schinznach AG. (What does these german(?) words mean?) Chassis-No. (Chassi numbers) and next line "TS - No. CH 016229" next line "Farb - No. 60 518"

I would be happy to get information about my cars past, since i do not reach first owners in Sweden at all. (the car is imported 1987 to Sweden)

Can anybody help me trace my cars history? Would be fun to get in touch with prewious/ first owners and get some history/ photos/ broadcast sheets etc. And get information about where it was from the begining(?)
Can it be in Europe somewhere? Why does the tag/ plate spell in "german(?)" or what language is that? Does all Challys have this, or is it because of some european history?

Thanks!

There is a lot of information about Challengers with Sunroofs on here if you use the boards search facility.

The early sunroofs were done by both Creative Industries and the American Sunroof Co. (ASC). The parts do not interchange.

ASC had offices in LA, St. Louis and Detroit and CI just had Detroit.

Heinz Prechter (the founder of ASC) came to Detroit from LA in 1968 to install sunroofs in Mercury Cougars, the first American car to have a factory built sunroof. He built a small asembly line in Ecorse, a Detroit suburb, in a rented building to do the Cougars.

Chrysler began in-house factory sunroof installations for the '73 model year.

ASC started doing Chryslers in Detroit around late 1970? So I assume any made before that were CI for sure. Chrysler then used both companies.

ASC's St. Louis facility opened around July 1971?

ASC's LA facility opened in Summer '72.

Cars made in plants outside Detroit before 1971/72 had to be shipped to Detroit and back again to have a Sunroof fitted.

So, my car could have had a original sunroof by chrysler since it is a -73 ? (I will try to search that thread)

I saw that thread and a charger with a tag the same as mine... i thought it belong inside the door, but they have it beside the fendertag (also not there yet on my car)

Then it should have been assembled in switzerland as suspected, and i should search prewious owners there & not in the U.s then?

Your help is very appreachiated Alaskan T/A & Dave...

I like to get more help if you like... :s022:

Yes. The car would have been originally owned by someone in Europe and the only US soil it has ever rolled on is the factory floor.

That is most likely the colour code (farb=colour; in german)

even if you would find the broadcast sheet without the right code it still does NOT meen that the car came without a sunroof.

cars sold new in Europe or "made" in 1970 could have been built with a sunroof locally.

remember that the 1970 cars built here doesn't have a fender tag or broadcast sheet so there is no factory proof of a sunroof.

sunroofs were popular in Europe so they were installed locally on cars that doesn't should have a sunroof. seen cars from the 50s and even GM ponycars from the 60s with sunroofs.

even 1970-71 barracudas, years before mother Plymouth started making them.

these sunroofs are not the skyport type but with a sliding roof like the factory roofs.

try to find out how big the hole have been and what type, that could help

so you might have a sunroof that isn't factory built but still correct because it is a dealer installed sunroof.

I joined the forum for mopars in Switzerland, but have not recieved any confirmation... (It was a bit hard to understand the forms in their language)
I thought i could try to get some help from there to track prewious owner...
