I'm looking for the production numbers of these '74 Rallye 360 4spd cars, and am turning up nothing.. Anyone have any idea how many were made? I'm looking at one right now.
Thanks!

Several sources says that the total production was 11,354. In other words this figure might be correct.

From: http://challenger.mpoli.fi/the.dodge.ch ... /73-74.htm
6,063 (I am told this figure is for cars with the 360 engine)

Pretend that this is true and that automatic cars usually outnumber manual cars then you will end up with about 2000 (1974 360 4spd Challengers....).

I have no idea if I am fairly right or not. :? At least I gave it a try :!: :D

They are not rare or valuable enough to worry about specific production numbers. But having said that you don't see many 4-speed 74s do you? Sounds interesting. :nod:

The most accurate production numbers are here;

http://challenger.mpoli.fi/forum/viewto ... 4361#14361

But as you will see Chrysler just grouped all the numbers together. This was because the numbers were used to show trends (which options were most popular) but when it became clear to them that the model was now a dead duck they didn't bother or need detailed stats on the options.

Many of the numbers you see or read about are US only shipments. Again this is because Chrysler were only interested in gathering stats that mattered to them. Such as their home market in the USA.

16,437 is the total 1974 Challenger production. That includes all options and all USA, Canadian and export shipments. As far as I know this is the only accurate number.

On my old website (which no longer belongs to me) I listed these figures;

1974 production was (pick one of these)

6,063 (I am told this figure is for cars with the 360 engine)
11,354
16,437

These are the numbers i could find at that time.

As already said the 16,437 figure is a total.

I think the 11,354 figure may be US production numbers. If that is true then about half of them would be 360 versions so the 6,063 figure would be about right.
So you can guess from the way the 4-speed sold in other model years that under half of those would be 4-speed cars. So around 2500 would be my guess.

I just read an article on the 360-4speed 1974 'Cudas' they reportedly made only 398 4 speed 360's total. I wonder why they made so many 360-4 speed Dodges compared to the more popular Cuda? By 1974 the Big Block was gone so was the 340,, I didnt think there were that many 'low performance' 360 4 speeds built! Every Post 72 I have ever saw was a 'slushbox model. :lol: ' 4-speeds are much rarer than they were pre 72 :thumbsup:

I have to admit (and as I hinted at in my first reply) I can't remember ever even seeing a 4-speed 74 model. So it could be rare.

OK so lets go by the 1973 figures we have there.

Of total Challenger production only 5.2% were 4-speeds with the bigger engine. Much less than I was thinking.

So if that trend continued into the 1974 model year that would make the number of 4-speed 360 cars = 855.

Thanks for all the input guys.. I just kinda stumbled across it. It's a basket case, but it's all there, black on black with vynil roof & silver Rallye stripes...
The last thing I need right now is another project car, and the wife will probably kill me. But I love these "rare finds"
Never had a 4 spd car before either..
Besides, a Mopar is a terrible thing to waste!!
