F19 Fleet code on a 1971 Challenger? Any idea?

Postby SeekinChallRag » 02 Mar 2009 5:09

I recently saw a F19 code on the fender tag of a JH23L1B. Any ideas?

Do you have any pic's? Is that a 360, four barrel car? I bet, Barry has the answer.

I think F19 has something to do with the battery or the alternator

The "F" codes are usually to do with the battery or alternator. But I don't have a record of that code and I don't recall ever having seen a F code on a Challenger fender tag before.

It is very hard to comment on tag codes without seeing a clear photo of it. They are often miss-read due to rust or bad stamping. Sometimes codes get on fake tags that should never be there at all.

Got a tag photo?

It could be a factory typo on the tag, a rusty tag hard to read or a fake tag altogether. A photo would help.

Pictures - 2 Tagger!

Postby SeekinChallRag » 02 Mar 2009 23:25

It is a two tag car. The tags don't look bogus. Rust is not a problem re identification of code - It is clearly F19. It's a highly optioned Special Order (Y39) car which makes me wonder if the code is correct and what it stands for has just been lost to the mists of time! The other possibility is that it is a miss-stamp. The other question I have about this vehicle is it is a sunroof car but is missing the M51 code. Does that make sense? I have run across this phenomenon before - where a 1971 Challenger sunroof car didn't show the sunroof code on the tag. Any thoughts?

Don't know about the tag, but could you post some close up shots of the sunroof if you have any?

The G in the VON is the sunroof code for 1971.

The Y39 is because of the sunroof. The car had to be sent out to ASC in an unfinished condition, ASC then installed the suroof, vinyl top & related interior bits.

Windsor built cars had some F codes whose meaning has been lost to time, at least so far. It is possible an employee who stamped the tags transfered from one plant to the other & made a mistake.

Honestly, I know very little.

That is why I read everything I can find on these cars. There are so many unknowns.........

So F19 is a heavy duty alternator? Not seen that on a tag before.

Question answered...

I guess my question has been answered. Thanks so much! I just love all this niggly (niggly, adj of niggle - to be preoccupied with details; fuss ) little Mopar code stuff.

Dave, it is in the alternator box, but some Windsor cars have odd numbers in the broadcast sheet boxes that do not relate to what the box says at all. It is odd to see it on a Hamtramck car though.

It is a mystery for now........... at least to me.

What's a G-car?

And why are there 154 of them?
