Date Codes on Fender Tag

Postby DanaProsky » 07 May 2008 0:33

How did Ma Mopar do the date codes on the fender tags for 70-71 Challengers and Cudas, some use letters for the months, i.e. B09, which is Feb 9th 1971, and some use numbers for the months, i.e. 504, which would be May 4th 1971. What method did they use?

Both.

There was only place on the tag for one digit to represent the month.

So 1-9 for January to September. Then A -C for October to December.

Remember that this is the aproximate date the car was due to go into production. The actual build date is usually a couple of weeks later. Depending on production pressures.

I guess you have a point there. Since we are discussing 70-71 Challengers in this thread, the two possibilties are either November 1969 or November 1970.
