my 71 v code car has a block casting date of 5/19/70 on it ,the pad is 8 27 and the car was delivered 9/71 .the car was purchased new by a friend , and the block has the vin on it. is it normal for that long of a span.

The blocks were cast in batches. It is not unheard of for a block to have been cast a long time before being used.

But that is a long time indeed!

Ifound the ansewer to my question the car was built 9/70,the last six of vin begin with 18----

If 9/70 was the scheduled date it probably actually came down the assembly line late September or early October at the latest.

But that is a lot closer to the block casting date!
