O.K. Challenger T/A, well, it's deffinately not a T/A. But, here's a challenge. I was bored this weekend, and decided to check my I.D. Boss. After sanding the paint off, so I could see it, I found this. M340 06088300. The first 8 in the sequince is questionable. The code by the oil filter is h3b523494, in sequince with my V.I.N. Doe's anybody have a clue on this one. :?

I take it this is the number stamped just under the drivers side cylinder head?

340 is the displacement.

The letter M to the left of the displacement is either a year code or the engine plant code. If M was the date it would be 1976. If it is the plant code it is Mound Road so it is probably the plant code.

The first 4 numbers to the right of the displacement is the engine built date. It can be a regular date or a 10,000 day date. It looks like the latter to me.

The last 4 numbers is the build-sequence number.

340 - Like Dave said, 340cid

The other numbers do not compute, are they hard to read? Can you take a close up photo maybe? (first one is too low, second one too high)

3B in the VIN 1s a 1973 Hamtramck car.

Take a look at the M again too and see if it is actually a W?

Thank's for your response guy's. It's definately an "M". The first "8" in the sequence is a little low and hard to read. Look's more like a lower case letter "o". I don't even know why I had to check into this. I've already confirmed the #'s on the passenger side of the block. I was reading the I.D. section in my Year One catalog and just had to look. The number's didn't compute to me either, so I just had to ask the great #'s Guru! I would post a Pic. But, my close up picture's are as good as Eddie's. And so is my camera. :s006: I used fine grit sandpaper and had good lighting. That is what the number's were. Yes Dave, this is the # below the driver's side cylinder head. AS you guy's know, there are a few odditie's with my car. Maybe, May 30th, 1973 was a weekend day or something. :? Now, I really wish I had a 70, or maybe those are just as confusing.
