1973 Challenger Rallye C code

Postby Pat Hartley » 02 Mar 2007 2:34

To One MOPAR FAN TO ANOTHER: I have a 1973 #'s matching C code Rallye option 340 Challenger. Everything on the car say's Rallye except A57 on the fender tag. The code's are all correct from the dash to the suspenion and exhaust. The car also has the fender side scoop's. The car has been repainted from JY9 to FY1 about 11 year's ago, nice change in my opinion. Could this be a dealer option car?, or did the export car's not have all the info on the fendertag. The car only has the one repaint and appear's very original. I love this car even though I'm a"70" Fan. Also, howmany 340 Challenger's were exported to Canada in 73? The only other information I have on my car is that it was ordered from a guy in Alberta, Canada. He moved to Gresham Oregon and sold it there. I bought it from the second owner last July. If you can give me any helpful hint's or tip's, I would sure appreciate it. THANK'S PAT

All the codes are on the Fender-Tag, it does not matter if this is a Canadian or Export car. The C Code is for Canada. The Export cars have the code " I ". So if there are some things on your car that do not show on the Fender-Tag, it is probably added by the dealer or by one of the owners. However there are some cars known that have options from the factory that are not on the Fender-Tag. It is reported that this was done by mistake at the factory. Hard to tell if your car is one of them, only the dealer or the original owner could know, if they remember those details.

Do you have the broadcast sheet ? If yes, check the codes there as well.

Is it a Rallye?

I just went and checked the fender tag on my 74, and also checked the build sheet. Everything I have says that code A57 is the Challenger Rallye Package. In my case it included the following, J54 Bulge Hood, Black Grille, Fender scoops, Body side strobe stripe, HD Suspension, Front and rear sway bar. Rallye Instrument Cluster, etc. I can't say if the 73 differs from the 74, perhaps somebody with a known 73 Rallye can confirm the option code for 1973.

It is not a Rallye, it would have to have the A57 code.

So Folk's : What I have here is a base model Challenger with all the Rallye gizmo's. That doesn't make me love it any less. Why would they put all that Rallye stuff on there and not call it a Rallye? It even has factory sway bar's, front & rear. :ashamed:

Usually adding all the options that are standard on the Rallye (or R/T) costs more than just buying the Rallye in the first place.

So I agree, it is odd. But I have seen this before.

It hasn't got a Rallye instrument cluster though.

Since it has the V5X side moldings coded, It could not have come with A57 since the stripes and moldings were not allowed together.

Dave, N85 is coded, so I bet it does have the rallye cluster. The newer cars did not code A62.

Pat. I also have a base model with all of the rallye options. It is an oddity, but mine was a Chrysler Executive lease Car. Code Y22 Might help explain.
