Yes, it looks like a tag from a car assembled in France.
Compare it with the tag on this car.

I would say France as well, almost sure. FBernard should now, he has an original French delivery Challenger. Maybe he can help.

I am sure it is NOT: England, Switzerland, Germany.

Funny coincidence! (I didn´t notice it at first...) First the tag disassembled and then, on the pic´s I posted, the tag assembled on the car. (Identical tags) I assume that Bob from Sweden is the owner of the grey beauty above, right?

Swiss assembled Challengers are very rare, but the French Challengers are even more rare ! Newbee, please send photos of the car in it's current condition. Do you have a Broadcast-Sheet ?

Repy by Fbernard in another thread:

fbernard wrote:I checked with a member of my club, this French Challenger is part of a 24 car order from Simca - all serial numbers follow each other. That order was cancelled by Simca (too late apparently) and the cars were delivered nonetheless (I know of a few cars in that list). The car may or may not have been sold new in France (could have been redirected to a dealer in another European country). There's no way to tell whether it was sold in France since the order for those cars were cancelled (ottherwise the town and dealer name are available).

Is there any chance to contact the owner, just to see if he knows about the history of his car or the previous owners/Country?

Christer, your second photo, the one with the tag Chrysler Corporation Divison Dodge...... look at the sides next and close to the tag, it seems there are a few holes from another tag before. I can't really tell, I should see the car in person. Very very interesting.

If the car was sold in another european country, not France, it would probably have received another tag. Each country has it's own rules about the tags. But it could have been sold in or around Geneva (they speak French, in this part of Switzerland). Belgium could be possible too.

I guess the only way would to find out would be to ask the owner, maybe he knows about the history.

Actually, that small plate only gives the maximum weights allowed for the car with and without a trailer in tow. I didn't notice one in my car, but I'll have to check that.
I suppose there should be the two plates on a French-imported car.

I doubt that this car was assembled in France (it would have a short VIN, not a complete one), but it was probably sold new here.

I'll try to check the VIN with the list we already have.

No Challengers were ever imported new to England or the UK.

Not sure about Germany.

Hello!

Yes it has short vinnr (on dashboard) 08170392
And the glass is made by STAALGLAS in Amsterdam

I have spoke to all previus owners in sweden and nobody remember any builtsheet or fendertag, and there has not been any bolts in thos hole where the fendertag sopose to be.

It was werry complete when i purchase it, it only missed Exhaustmanifold, fanshroud, jack and wheelcovers, so i have restored it witout add or take of parts.

Sorry for my crapy english!

Tnx Krister! for the kind word about my car

I think I spoke with you on the Scandinavian Mopar Nat´s 2006. Just a couple of words. Take care of your car. It deserves it. I really like odd and unusual mopars. It really doesn´t has to be a R/T, it only has to be an unusual. Then I am VERY intrested. :D

That is a dead giveaway for French assembled cars (assembled in the Simca plant at Poissy, France). Especially if the "B", replaced with a "8", looks like an inverted keyhole.

There were never any broadcast sheets found in those cars. Maybe they were collected during assembly and destroyed, or maybe they were not included in the partially assembled cars coming from the USA.

I'm scheduled to organize a Mopar meeting at the assembly plant this year (probably late september). If you're interested in visiting this plant, the club that runs it has a web site : http://autosfrancaises.free.fr/CAAPY/web/
