Got a problem • The Dodge Challenger Message Board

Can some one help me. I went to the MVD to get my car registered,
did not have title ( lost ) so MVD did a title search came back ok.
The vin on the rad support and the cowl match BUT, it comes back
as a 70 plymonth satellite not sure what to do. :s006:

The rad support and cowl only have part of the VIN code on them.

Is there no complete VIN in the car anywhere?

Like the dash VIN or fender tag?

No build sheet found in the car?

No dave, it had a vin on the the dash but it was glued on the custom dash
cover. It also has a fender tag. Both dash and fender tag vin match but
don't match the car. The rad and cowl #s match. There is one more vin stamp that is on the top part of the trunk lip under the weather stripping
but I have not looked. Not sure what to do.

The mvd ran the #s on the car rad and cowl,and came back as a plymouth satellite.

Do you thank the factory could have the wrong stamping on the car?

Bugger. You do realise the car could even be stolen?

There is one more vin stamp that is on the top part of the trunk lip under the weather stripping

Don't bother looking there. You will not find one there on a Challenger.

Any sign the rad support and cowl might have been cut out of another car? These parts are similar on both models.

The numbers on these parts only tell you the year, production plant, and the sequence order the car was built. They do not say what model the car was. I would suggest that either the parts are from the Plymouth or the MVD have it wrong.

They ran the #s at mvd and they lookat the car to , it came back clean.
is there a # to dodge, and I wonder if there records go back that far.

Most records from that time were lost in a fire. Not sure about LA built cars. Try looking at the list Barry Washington (AlaskanT/A) has on his website. It might give you some insight into the nature of the numbers you have. If there is any numbers close to yours chances are it is indeed a Challenger number.

What production plant code is on the cowl number anyway?

Dave the #s on the rad and cowl came back clean and are coming up
as a 70 satellite. The dash vin that is not riveded and the loss fender tag
go to a 70 challenger. all clean. mvd will not give info.

nomopar title is lost but still looking

Here the story on the car. my boss bought a house (a big house ) the seller sold him the house and two cars in the deal, a 34 ford and the 70 challenger . I asked him to sell me the car, he said I'm going to give you
the car for all your hard work. so there you have it. cool huh.
So now the work begins.

Registering it isn't the problem, keep it a challenger is.
Right now the car is registered as a 70 satellite, now thats crazy :hmmm:

I just need to keep doing my research.

Were can I find records on parshal vins? ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post photos of ALL the numbers on the car, radiator support, cowl, dash VIN and any others. We need more info, the photos will help us address your problem.

Hi every one, been awhile since I've been on,I've been really bizzy at work and remodeling the house, but anyway, not sure what to do with
vin. As we left off the vin on the rad support and cowl match. but the
dash and fender are differant by the last 3 numbers

The cowl and rad read E0 137189

The dash and fender tag read J23N0E137325

What are the numbers on the engine and trans?

LA broadcasts sheets are scarce but it is still possible to find one or two.
Have you looked for one yet?

OK. It is simple. As already said above all that has happened is that someone built one good Challenger out of two dead ones.

Forget about the Plymouth thing. They have that wrong. It must have been another Challenger.

Just use the dash and fender tag numbers to register the car and never, never, watch the original version of the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds".

Is there a door VIN sticker and if so, what number does it have? This car may have had a front clip and firewall/cowl assembly from a donor.

Alaskan, I have not looked on the trany or engine they are not original.
maybe the trany but the car came with a 383 and now has a 440.
tell me were on the trany.

The rad and cowl are original.

Jackt The door sticker is not there.

The only thing that was changed is the left fender as I can tell.

Ok, for the tranny number, look on the passenger side of the bell housing for an automatic, or on the passenger side of the gear box for a 4-speed. The numbers are stamped into a pad about 3" long.

If the cowl stamp is original, it cannot be for a Sattelite, in 1970 they recieved the stamp in the rear lip of the trunk opening, not on the cowl.

If none of the numbers on the car have been altered, then the car was likely built right after the Sattellite and the guy stamping the numbers forgot to change them. It happened.

Well I can register car as a 70 satellite and bond it with out a
title or should I do a salvage title on the car. Arizona does not care if you have a notarized bill of sale.
So Ithink those are my only options I have unless anyone
has a better idea.

OK went to mvd today and they told me to check with a dodge
representative or even barret jackson allI need is documention
that the car is indeed A challenger.
Can someone help me with runing the vin

But if you use the Dash and fender tag VINs they ARE Challenger numbers. That is what JH23 means. You were asking for trouble running the other numbers.

The dash vin dose not match the cowl and rad
vin by the last 3 numbers, and the dash vin
had been removed to put the dash cover on and not riveded back on

There book {nisa}or what ever it is, when they run the numbers on the car cowl and rad they build to a 70 satellite, and thats the numbers
the have to use 0E137189
